LSU

The LSU Tigers are extremely fortunate to be 5-0 at this point in the season. Quite frankly they haven’t been very good, but they have won three close games and are still unbeaten. They must improve quickly or else they won’t be undefeated for long.

The LSU offense has sputtered all season long. It starts with a huge question mark at the quarterback spot. Jordan Jefferson is the starter, but he has had a very subpar year. Jefferson has thrown six interceptions and only two touchdown passes. The Tigers offense hasn’t been able to complete anything deep all year long. The LSU rushing attack has been fairly good, but they have had to shoulder the load for the whole offense. Steven Ridley is a solid running back, but he isn’t the type of guy who can break long runs too often. This offense has a lot of room for improvement.

The LSU defense is very good. The Tigers can definitely thank this defensive unit for allowing them to still be unbeaten at this point in the year. The defense ranks sixth in total defense and fifth in points allowed at just 12.4 points per game. The front seven is very strong and they are difficult to run the football against. In the secondary they have one of the best play makers in the game, Patrick Peterson.

I expect this defense to be very good all year long.

Florida

The Florida Gators were unimpressive in their first four victories, and then they were absolutely blown out by the Crimson Tide last weekend. Turnovers absolutely killed this team, and Urban Meyer knows they must improve quickly to stay in the SEC race.

The Florida offense just hasn’t been able to get going nearly as much as most people thought they would. The team ranks 84th in the nation in total offense, and they have been having severe trouble on first down, which puts them in a lot of third and long situations. John Brantley was beaten up a bit in their loss against Alabama, but he is expected to play this weekend. Jeff Demps is their big play threat, but he is also dealing with a sore foot. Trey Burton has added a bit of an extra dimension to the offense, but they must take better care of the football this weekend.

The Florida defense has done a great job so far this season. While Alabama did put up 31 points last weekend, the Crimson Tide only had 253 yards of total offense. The Gators defense has been solid against every team they have faced so far this year. Ahmad Black already has three interceptions on the year, and this is as good of a safety combination as you will find in college football with Black and Will Hill. The team is young on the front seven, but they are very talented. The Gators depth is very helpful as well, since they are able to stay fresh the entire game.

The Pick:

Neither of these teams has been playing good football this year. I really don’t like the way the LSU offense looks at all right now. I think Florida will shut them down, and I also think Urban Meyer and the offense will bust a long play or two in this one. I think Florida covers the spread in this one.

LSU vs. Florida Score Prediction: Florida 24 LSU 13
