Colorado State Rams vs. No. 25 Air Force Falcons Preview

In a Mountain West Conference match up this Saturday afternoon the 25th ranked Air Force Falcons (4-1) host the Colorado State Rams (1-4). College football lines have Air Force as 24.5-point favorites in this game with a total of 48.

Air Force has got off to a good start this season, as they are 2-0 in the MWC, have solid wins over BYU and Navy, and their only loss off the season was to Oklahoma and they almost beat the Sooners losing by only 3 points. They are all about the run, which is a major understatement, as they have the nation’s top-ranked rushing offense and 117th ranked passing offense.

Air Force is ranked in the top 25 for the first time since the 2002 season and they are off to their best start since going 5-0 in 2003.

Colorado State is 0-1 in the MWC and they have they are the polar opposite of Air Force, as they have the nation’s worst ranked rushing offense. In the Rams 4 losses they have averaged a grand total of only 4.75 points per game.

This game may be a blowout and by may be I mean likely, as the Falcons are averaging 373 rushing yards per game and the Rams only have the nation’s 104th ranked rushing defense. Yeah, not a good match up for Colorado State.

In their last games Colorado State lost to TCU 27-0 while Air Force beat armed forces rival Navy 14-6.

Heading into this MWC match up both Army and CSU are both 2-3 ATS.

The last time Colorado State beat Air Force was in the 2005 season.

Colorado State is playing consecutive ranked teams for the first time since 2004 and the Rams have lost their last 10 games against teams ranked in the top 25 in the nation.

For CSU to have any chance to win this game they will have to defend the run, but that will be far from easy keeping the Falcons RB duo of Jared Tew and Asher Clark from racking up big yards. This duo has combined for 905 rushing yards this season.

Last week Colorado State faced the 7th ranked rushing offense of TCU and they gave up 346 rushing yards, so how will they fair against a better running team? I say not well, as they will give up a TON of yards on the ground to the Falcons.

Air Force QB Tim Jefferson is 30/58 this season with 503 yards with 3 TD, but the Falcons rarely air it out and why will they need to in this game?

For Colorado State to have any chance in this game they will have to light up the scoreboard through the air and this season the Rams do have a decent passing attack ranked 40th in the nation. However, they only had 116 passing yards in the shutout loss to TCU and they will be facing a legit Air Force pass defense that ranks 33rd in the nation.

Rams’ QB Pete Thomas has to shoulder the offensive load in this game, as CSU has the nation’s lowest ranked rushing offense and to top it off leading rusher Raymond Carter may miss this game with a knee injury.

Can this be a worse match up for the Rams? I think not.

The Rams do not match up well at all with the Falcons, are on the road, may be without their leading RB, and they are averaging a MWC worst 11 points per game, and giving up the most points in the MWC at 33 points per game.

Betting Trends:

Colorado State is 1-6 ATS in their last 7 MWC games, 2-9 ATS in their last 11 games, and has an Under record of 5-1 in their last 6 games.
Air Force is 16-7 ATS in their last 23 MWC games, 13-3 ATS in their last 16 games against teams with a losing record, and has an Under record of 4-0 in their last 4 games.
In the last 6 meetings between these 2 teams the total has gone Over 5 times.

Pick: Air Force should have their way with Colorado State and they will more than easily win this game and cover the 24.5-point spread.
