The Connecticut Huskies open their 2010 Big East conference play against the Rutgers Scarlet Knights this Friday night at Rutgers Stadium in Piscataway, NJ. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. and the game will be broadcast live on ESPN.

Connecticut appears to have survived a shaky start to its season with a dominating 40-21 win over Vanderbilt this past Saturday. The Huskies easily covered as an 8 ½ point home favorite and the total went way ‘over’ the 45 ½ point line. This win raises their record to 3-2 both straight-up and against the spread on the year.

Utilizing a balanced offensive attack, Connecticut is averaging 34.6 points per game, ranking them 31st in the country. QB Cody Endres, who replaced an ineffective Zach Thomas midway through the Huskies 45-21 win over Buffalo two weeks ago, has now thrown for 318 yards, completing 68.1 percent of his passes. RB Jordan Toddman has led the way on the ground with 638 yards on 98 carries. He is averaging 6.5 yards per carry and leads the team with seven TD’s. NFL Betting

Rutgers opens conference play 2-2 overall SU and 0-4 ATS. It is coming off back-to-back losses to North Carolina (17-13) and Tulane (17-14). Against the Tar Heels, the Scarlet Knights were a three point home underdog and came very close to pulling off the upset. Against the Green Wave, they were a 17 point home favorite and seemed to fall apart after losing their starting QB Tom Savage with an undisclosed injury late in the first half. Chas Dodd took over in relief but could only lead the team to seven second half points. Savage’s status for this game is currently unknown.

Even with Savage behind center the Scarlet Knights have struggled to put points on the board this season. They only scored 20 or more in their season-opening 31-0 win over Norfolk State. Most of their production has been on the ground led by RB Mohamed Sanu’s 225 rushing yards on 37 carries. He is also the team’s leading scorer with three TD’s.

Connecticut is 7-3 both SU and ATS in its last 10 games. The Huskies are 2-3 SU in their last five road games and 3-2 ATS. The total has gone ‘over’ in seven of these 10 games.

Rutgers is 6-4 SU and 4-6 ATS in its last 10 games. The Scarlet Knights are 3-3 SU and 2-4 ATS in their last six games at home. The total has stayed ‘under’ in three of their last four games.

Head-to-head, Rutgers has won four of the last five games SU but just one of five ATS. Last season they won by four points 28-24 as a 7 ½ point road favorite and the year before they won by two points 12-10 as a three point favorite at home. Connecticut is finally starting to play up to their potential which is bad news for an already reeling Rutgers team. The Huskies come away with the win on the road and cover the points.
