Iowa State vs. Baylor Free Week 6 Preview & Pick (Oct. 8)

Iowa St. Cyclones vs Baylor Bears Gambling + Handicapping

The Iowa State Cyclones have been flying below the radar in the Big 12 this season.  Sure they got hammered against Texas last week but a home win over rival Iowa and road win at UConn are pretty good for a squad nobody thought much of coming into the season.

Iowa State

Now that the competition has stiffened it will be interesting to see if they can maintain the quality of play that had them undefeated before visiting Austin last week.

When the Cyclones were winning it was because they were getting good quarterback play.  Steele Jantz threw for 4 touchdowns with no picks against Iowa, as they Cyclones piled up 44 points in the victory.  The best way to beat Baylor is to outscore the Bears and they are going to need another big game from Jantz if they are to achieve the upset victory on the road.

These teams have split their last 10 games with Iowa State winning last year at home.  In that game Iowa State dominated on the ground with 240 yards, a strategy they would be wise to employ to keep the ball out of the hands of sizzling Robert Griffin.  Griffin was hurt for last year’s loss but was in the lineup and sharp when Iowa State lost to the Bears the year previous.

Baylor

Baylor had their wondrous start spoiled last week when their defense couldn’t hold back Kansas State in the 4th quarter.  [soliloquy id=”82219″]

The game winning points were scored on a KSU field goal with a little more than three minutes left and the unexpectedly impressive Wildcats defense held the explosive Bears form scoring again.  Baylor still has a chance to enjoy a very good season as long as they recover at home this week…and not be the same old Bears.

This year the Bears have been all about a healthy Robert Griffin.  He has been absolutely fantastic this year,   I actually has to cross check the numbers because at first I didn’t believe them.  Through 4 games he has thrown for 1308 yards, is completing 82% of his passes including 18 touchdowns with just a single interception.  This team also has balance with running back Terrance Ganaway rushing for more than 5 yards per carry.

If Baylor plays well than this game won’t even be close.  They could easily put up enough points by halftime to secure the victory as Griffin continues to build his Heisman campaign numbers.  In case your eyes can’t size this one up you might be interested to know that in this series the home team is on a 7-1 ATS run right now.  There is no reason to see that string come to an end.

ATS Pick:  Baylor -15
Over/Under Pick:  Over
Score Prediction:  Baylor 45 – Iowa State 24
