Nevada vs. Boise St. Free Week 5 Preview & Pick (Oct. 1)

Bet On College Football – Nevada Wolf Pack vs Boise State Broncos Gambling Preview

Nevada certainly doesn’t duck anybody in their non-conference scheduling.  This year they have already been waxed by Oregon, lost by a point at Texas Tech and now venture to Boise to resume what used to be a decent WAC rivalry.

Nevada

Last year the Wolf Pack destroyed the Broncos perfect season but was it keen insight into a familiar opponent or just luck?  Their performance this year should tell us something.

Nevada may not win a game out of conference this year but this is still a team to be reckoned with in the WAC.  Colin Kaepernick has moved on but they still run the ball very well (7th in the nation) and outrushed Oregon in the opener, a game that was closer than the final numbers indicated.  The bigger difference last year to this may be on the defensive side of the ball. They lost their most disruptive defensive player and haven’t found a replacement.

This will be the first time these two teams have squared off outside the WAC since 1977.  Nevada won last year but haven’t beaten the Broncos on the blue turf since 1997 losing by about 30ppg.  The odds of them breaking that streak on Saturday seem slim but they should have lots of chances after the Wolf Pack follow Boise to the Mountain West next season. Boise State

Boise State had last week off and suffered for it in the polls.  With all the shifting at the top nobody saw any need to update their opinion on the Broncos but they still have lots of time to make a case to be included in the BCS discussion once again.  As Nevada was the one team to beat them last year you can bet the Wolf Pack will have the Broncos full attention Saturday afternoon.

Last year’s loss to Nevada was by three points so it is not as if they got outplayed badly.  Nevada was the only team last season to gain more than 400 yards against Boise – running and passing for 528 yards in the victory leading to the belief that it was the defense that let the team down (losing the turnover battle didn’t help).  This year the defense has been very sharp allowing just 19ppg.  If they can hold Nevada there than a victory should be easy.

Boise State has to get back on the radar and this is the perfect spot:  at home, familiar opponent, revenge game.  They seem to have lost some of their explosiveness from last year but they are still beating teams and were impressive in handling Geogia in the opener.  If this team has the edge we think it does than we should see it on Saturday.

ATS Pick:  Nevada +27
Over/Under Pick:  Over
Score Prediction:  Boise State 45 – Nevada 28
