Georgia

If Mark Richt was on the hot seat before the season even started, that seat must be absolutely on fire right now. The Bulldogs have started the season 1-3 and 0-3 in the SEC. The team must get things turned around right now if they are going to salvage this season.

The Georgia offense has badly missed A.J. Green so far this year. Green is expected to be back on Saturday and it will be interesting to see how well this team does at incorporating their star into the offense. Aaron Murray has done a solid job at the quarterback position as a freshman, but the running game has been very disappointing. The Georgia offensive line is dinged up and they just aren’t opening holes the way they should be right now. Ealey and King form a nice tailback tandem, but the production just hasn’t been there. The Bulldogs must find a way to get Green the ball early and often.

The Georgia defense has done a fairly good job this season. They are only allowing 20 points per game and they have given the team a chance to win. The defense has done better than expected against the run thanks to a new defensive scheme. The pass rush hasn’t been very effective and the secondary has struggled at times.

This is a defense that appears to be slowing improving.

Colorado

Dan Hawkins knows all about the hot seat, and chances are if the Buffaloes don’t go bowling this year he will be out as coach of this football team. Colorado is 2-1, but their one loss was a 52-7 blowout at the hands of the Cal Golden Bears. This is a big chance for Colorado to prove they are progressing as a team.

The Buffaloes offense has been extremely inconsistent this year. Tyler Hansen has thrown four touchdowns and four interceptions. The team has a solid short passing game, but the lack of a deep threat catches up with them against good defenses. Rodney Stewart is the leading rusher for this squad, but he is only averaging 3.8 yards per carry on the season. Scotty McKnight’s numbers are down quite a bit so far this year, and Colorado must find a way to get the ball to him since he is such a reliable receiver.

The Colorado defense has been very good so far this season, especially against the run. The Buffaloes allow just 72 yards per game on the ground, good enough for seventh in the nation. In their last game they did a great job slowing down a prolific Hawaii offense down. The secondary is very solid, and despite a poor showing against Cal, I think they’ll be one of the best against the pass in the Big 12 this year. The defense needs to carry this team in 2010.

The Pick:

This is an interesting matchup because both teams badly need a win here. Georgia seems to have the better talent overall, but Colorado has a solid home field advantage. I think the defenses will have the advantage here and the best value on the board is the under.

Georgia vs. Colorado Score Prediction: Georgia 21 Colorado 17
