San Diego State (3-0) vs No. 21 Michigan (3-0) Gambling Preview + Predictions

It will be Brady Hoke and the Michigan Wolverines against the team Hoke coached last season this weekend in Ann Arbor. Hoke did a great job with the Aztecs of San Diego State, and they are certainly not an opponent that Michigan should take lightly.

ATS Report

Rocky Long has taken over the top spot at San Diego State. No doubt San Diego State would love nothing more than to be able to ruin Michigan’s perfect record after the team took away their head coach. Can they do it or will the Wolverines stay unbeaten?

While they won’t get much publicity at this point, San Diego State is also undefeated entering this big matchup. Ryan Lindley and Ronnie Hillmann give the Aztecs a terrific quarterback and running back combination in the backfield. Lindley is a senior quarterback who has started the majority of his four-year career at San Diego State. He has gradually gotten better every year. His completion percentage isn’t great this season, but he has thrown seven touchdowns and just one interception.

Hillmann burst onto the scene as a freshman at San Diego State last season. He picked p 5.8 yards per carry and rushed for 17 touchdowns last year. He has on pace to smash those marks, as he is currently carrying a 6.5 yards per carry average and he already has eight rushing touchdowns. Expect San Diego State to be able to score quite a few on just about everyone they play this year. The defense hasn’t been as good as last year so far, and that is a concern. Army shredded them on the ground, and Washington State picked up 368 passing yards last week.[soliloquy id=”82219″]

Ann Arbor has been rocking ever since Hoke came on board, but the win over Notre Dame really excited the fan base. Michigan’s defense held Eastern Michigan to just three points last week, but it will get a much bigger test this weekend. The Wolverines offense hasn’t been quite as dynamic as last year, but Denard Robinson is staying healthy, and right now that is the biggest key for Michigan.

The Michigan offense is averaging 33.3 points per game so far this year. Denard Robinson has thrown for 531 yards and rushed for 352 yards so far this season. Robinson has completed only 49% of his passes, and that number will need to increase if the Wolverines are going to contend for a Big Ten title. In addition, the Wolverines are continuing to look for a tailback to step up and take some pressure off Robinson in the running game. The receivers are very talented and this offense will continue to move the football on a weekly basis. Notre Dame shredded up the Michigan defense pretty badly, but they were able to escape in that game. This unit knows they still have a lot of room for improvement. Mike Martin leads a strong defensive line for Michigan. The linebackers need to make more plays for the Wolverines to be more successful on defense.

Both teams are much stronger offensively than they are on defense. I expect San Diego State to really push Michigan in this one, but my favorite play here is the over.

Michigan runs over San Diego state by 30/40 points in a easy victory. San diego states corners are to soft and Denard will run all over their defense. Robinson/smith both rush over 100 yards again and Robinson passes for over 100 with a total of 5 touchdowns. 42 to 10 Michigan rolls and becomes 4 and 0.
