Arkansas

The Razorbacks have the potential to make some serious noise in 2010. The offense is absolutely stacked with top notch talent, and Ryan Mallett is a potential Heisman candidate. The team hasn’t looked that sharp yet this year, but this will be their first real test.

Ryan Mallett is the signal caller for this offense, and he is a terrific leader. He stands almost 6’7 and has one of the strongest arms in college football. Mallett started a little slow last week, but finished with 400 yards through the air. In the last 14 games Mallett has thrown 36 touchdowns and just nine interceptions. While Mallett is their star, this offense has plenty of other very solid players. Greg Childs, Jarius Wright, and Joe Adams are probably the best trio of receivers in the SEC. In the backfield Broderick Green and Dennis Johnson are good runners that can also catch the ball out of the backfield. This offense will be terrific in 2010.

The defense was the worst in the SEC last year, but they should be a little better in 2010. The defensive line has improved and is fairly deep this year. The secondary seems to be the biggest issue for this team. The cornerbacks are inexperienced and the safeties have a history of allowing plays to get behind them. The defense absolutely must cut down on the big plays they give up. College Football

Georgia

The Georgia Bulldogs looked great in the season opener, but they fell last weekend in South Carolina. The Bulldogs couldn’t contain Marcus Lattimore, and the offense never got anything consistent going. This is a huge game for Georgia, who needs this one to stick around in the SEC East title hunt.

Aaron Murray is the new starter at quarterback, and while he hasn’t been spectacular, he has done a solid job of taking care of the football so far this year. The Bulldogs definitely need to get their running game going better than they have so far in 2010. Murray has solid tools, but he is a freshman, and the Bulldogs need the running game to be their bread and butter this year. The absence of A.J. Green really hurts this team, as it takes away a major weapon on the outside.

The Bulldogs defense is having trouble stopping the run. Last weekend, they knew Marcus Lattimore was coming, but they couldn’t stop him. The defensive line lacks a real run stopper and that will need to be addressed. The secondary is solid, so they do match up better against a team like Arkansas who will want to throw the football early and often. If they are going to be successful this game, they will absolutely have to put some pressure on Ryan Mallett.

Don’t sleep on the fact that Georgia will have a huge special teams advantage in this one with Drew Butler at punter and Blair Walsh doing the kicking.

The Pick:

The Bulldogs have beaten Arkansas six straight times. Arkansas is probably the more dangerous team of these two, but I don’t know that they matchup very well with the Bulldogs. I suspect Mark Richt and the Bulldogs will be extra hungry for a win this weekend, and I think they’ll pull it out in front of their home crowd. I like Georgia -2.5 in this one.

Arkansas vs. Georgia Score Prediction: Georgia 27 Arkansas 21
