Both teams have been moving the ball well offensively, but that’s all about to change as each will face a defense that has thrived in the early going.

No. 9 Iowa (2-0) have held their first two opponents to 216 yards per game and 14 total points and is led by Orange Bowl MVP Adrian Clayborn.

Now they will face their toughest challenge of the season, a No. 24 Arizona (2-0) offense that has averaged 503.5 total yards and are 10th in the nation in passing (344.0 ypg), outscoring its opponents 92-8 in its first two games.

Much of the credit for the revitalization of the Wildcats passing attack can be credited to junior QB Nick Foles, who permanently took over the starting job from Matt Scott three games into the 2009 campaign and has completed 83.1 percent of his attempts in two starts this season. He was 6 for 11 for 55 yards and a TD in a 27-17 loss against the Hawkeyes in 2009.

He seems to have found the right chemistry with his receivers especially WR Juron Criner who tied for the Pac-10 lead with nine TD receptions last season and is leading the team this year with 12 receptions for 246 yards and one score.

Adding some punch to the Wildcat offensive attack will be tailback Nic Grigsby who has a remarkable five touchdowns through two weeks of play.

Equally up to the task will be an Iowa offense that has found its own resurgence. Ranked 92nd overall a year ago with 330.8 yards per game, the Hawkeyes have amassed 457 yards in two blowout victories averaging 37 points per game.

Senior quarterback Ricky Stanzi has led the way with 230 yards passing, throwing for three TDs without an interception through the Hawkeyes first two non-conference games including 204 passing yards in last Saturday’s 35-7 win over rival Iowa State.

Stanzi got a little help from sophomore RB Adam Robinson who contributed 156 of 275 yards rushing in the win. Robinson had 18 carries for 101 yards and two scores against the Wildcats last season.

The duo will meet up with an Arizona defense that was 21st in the nation during the 2009 season (315.8 ypg) and have continued their dominance in 2010, as they have not allowed a touchdown through two weeks, the first time they’ve kept teams out of the end zone in back-to-back games since 2000.

The Wildcats won the series’ last meeting in Tucson, 35-11, in 1998.

This will be an entertaining showdown in the desert, with a pass heavy west coast attack versus a shut down defense led by Clayborn. I think this is Arizona’s game for the taking but I can’t argue with Iowa being the favorite. This game lies in the hands of Zona’s D.
