The Rutgers Scarlet Knights travel south to Miami to take on the FIU Golden Panthers this Saturday night in a Big East-Sun Belt showdown.

Last week Rutgers opened its season at home against Norfolk State. The Scarlet Knights had little trouble getting past the Spartans from the MEAC in a 31-0 shutout. This game will be the season opener for Florida International.

These two teams met last season in Week 3 in New Jersey with Rutgers coming away with a harder than expected 23-15 victory as a 16 ½ point favorite. The game stayed way under the 51 ½ total line. Once again the Scarlet Knights are a prohibitive favorite, but this time they will have to win it on the road.

In last week’s game against Norfolk State, QB Tom Savage had to do little more than hand the ball off. He did manage to complete 10-of-19 for 148 yards and one TD, but the big story for the Rutgers’s offense was a rushing attack that gained 268 yards on the ground. Joe Martinek led the team with 109 yards on 20 carries and De’Antwan Williams added 69 more on just six carries. NFL Betting

It is safe to assume that Rutgers will look to employ the same strategy against FIU. All in all, five different players carried the ball in the first game including WR’s Jordan Thomas and Mohamed Sanu.

This will be FIU’s first game since the loss of RB Kendall Berry, who was stabbed to death in the offseason. As the team continues to grapple with the loss, they will turn to QB Wesley Caroll, who is finally eligible to play after transferring from Mississippi State to give them a lift on offense.

He will look to T.Y. Hilton as his primary receiver. Last season, Hilton led the team with 57 receptions for 632 yards. Also back are WR’s Greg Ellingson and Jason Frierson, who combined for close to 900 yards receiving in 2009.

Rutgers is 7-3 straight up in its last 10 games and 6-4 against the spread. The Knights are 3-1 both SU and ATS in their last four road games.

FIU is 3-7 SU in its last 10 games and just 2-8 ATS. The Panthers have lost four out of their last five home games ATS.

With a solid win under its belt, Rutgers is looking to spoil the Golden Panthers home opener with another rout of a team it should be able to easily beat. While FUI may be inspired playing for the memory of Berry, it will not be nearly enough to get by a much bigger and stronger opponent.

Rutgers at FIU Pick: Rutgers -19
