The South Florida Bulls take on the top ranked team in the state when they travel to Gainesville to play the Florida Gators in a Big East- SEC matchup.

South Florida is coming off a season opening 59-14 win over Stony Brook out of the Big South, while Florida rolled over Miami (OH) 34-12 from the MAC in its opener. This will be the first time these two schools have played each other in football in the past decade.

The Bulls’ new Head Coach Skip Holtz has to be pleased with the play of both his quarterbacks in the win over Stony Brook. B.J. Daniels led the way by completing 15-of-22 attempts for 264 yards and two TD’s. His replacement, Bobby Eveld completed 75 percent of his passes, going 9-for-12 for 119 yards. WR Evan Landi ended the day with six receptions for 104 yards, averaging over 17 yards per catch. It is this big play ability that gives South Florida’s offense a chance to put some points on the board in this game. NFL Betting

RB Marcus Shaw led a rushing attack that gained 180 yards on the ground, giving South Florida the necessary balance to make short work of the Seawolves. The Bulls actually trailed 14-7 midway through the first quarter, but fired off 52 unanswered points from that point on.

Florida’s opener featured the debut of QB John Brantley, who is trying to fill the huge shoes of the departed Tim Tebow. He did manage to complete 68 percent of his passes, but only threw for 113 yards on 17 completions. Chris Rainy was the leading receiver with six catches for 34 yards, including a 25 yard TD reception. RB Jeffery Demps led the way on the ground, rushing for 98 yards on just eight carries, including a 75 yard touchdown run.

Overall it was not the most impressive performance for a team that was favored by 38 points. Florida cannot afford to make the same mistakes against the Bulls or this game will be a little too close for comfort for Gator fans.

South Florida is 5-5 both straight up and against the spread in its last 10 games. The Bulls are 1-3 SU and 2-2 ATS on the road in their last four. The total has gone ‘over’ in seven of their last 10 games.

Florida is 9-1 SU in its last 10 games, but just 5-5 ATS. The Gators are 7-0 SU and 4-3 ATS in their last seven games at home. The total has stayed ‘under’ in six of their last 10 games.

It is hard to believe that Florida will look that bad on offense two weeks in a row, but Brantley is still very much an unproven entity trying to replace a legend. South Florida would have to play a near perfect game and still get some breaks to keep this one close enough to cover. The Gators get the home town fans in the‘Swamp’ jumping with a much better performance this week.

South Florida at Florida Pick: Florida -16
