Oregon State (0-1) at No. 9 Wisconsin (1-0) Gambling Preview + Predictions

This was billed by some as a big early season matchup, but Oregon State’s inexplicable loss to Sacramento State last weekend definitely took some of the luster away from this game.

Wisconsin took care of business on opening night, and the Badgers have some very lofty goals for this season.

Can Wisconsin stay focused and administer another beat down or will the Beavers bounce back from last week’s embarrassing loss to make this a close non-conference battle?

Oregon State rolled up 496 yards of total offense against Sacramento State (an FCS team), but they still managed to lose 29-28 in overtime. Untimely turnovers and penalties didn’t help their cause at all. Starting quarterback Ryan Katz was benched and Sean Mannion came in and did a solid job in the second half.

Coach Mike Riley has said that Katz will start again this weekend, but Mannion might get some playing time. The star for Oregon State was running back Malcolm Agnew. Agnew ran for 223 yards and three touchdowns in his first collegiate start. Star wideout James Rodgers missed last weekend’s game and he is doubtful for this game due to a knee injury.

The Beavers defense stuffed the run well last week, but they allowed 296 yards through the air. Expect Oregon State’s defense to get a real test from a terrific offense this weekend.

Wisconsin did exactly what they were supposed to do by dispatching of UNLV by a score of 51-17 last Thursday night. The offense was firing on all cylinders, which had to make Badger fans extremely happy. Russell Wilson stepped into the starting job and went 10 for 13 passing for 255 yards. [soliloquy id=”82219″]

It was a terrific start for Wilson, who has the potential to take this Badgers offense to the next level this season. James White and Montee Ball split time in the backfield as expected, and both of them ran the ball very well. Wisconsin’s offensive line looked as dominant as ever. While many people don’t realize it, the offensive line at Wisconsin has been the team’s biggest strength for the last few years.

Defensively the Badgers allowed 292 total yards, but UNLV only picked up 2 out of 12 third down conversion attempts.

Wisconsin’s offense should be among the best in the nation this year, but it will be up to the defense to play well if the Badgers are going to make a run at the national title.

The Badgers should have their way with this Oregon State defense. The Beavers aren’t that strong up front, and they are very susceptible to getting beat deep in the secondary. Oregon State’s offense should be able to put up some points as well.

I like the Badgers to win easily, but the over is my favorite play here.
