Kansas Jayhawks vs. No. 14 Missouri Tigers Preview

Missouri (9-2) may already know where they stand in the Big 12 when they face Kansas (3-8) this Saturday. With their win and Nebraska’s loss last week the Tigers pulled into a first place tie atop the Big 12 North with the Huskers, but if Nebraska wins on Friday they will be playing in the Big 12 title game since they beat Mizzou earlier this season. College football lines have Missouri as big 24.5-point favorites in this game with a total of 50.5.

This game is being held at a neutral site at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City.

In their last games Missouri beat Iowa State 14-0 and Kansas was killed losing to Oklahoma State 48-14.

This is a HUGE rivalry game and in an interesting fact it will be the 119th meeting between the 2 schools, which is the 2nd oldest FBS rivalry only behind Wisconsin and Minnesota.

This season has been one Kansas would like to forget, as they will not be going bowling this post-season and they have lost 6 of their last 7 games and have bean beaten badly in their last 2.

The Tigers are going to be big Colorado fans on Friday, but the Buffalos beating the Huskers is very unlikely. Still, there is a chance and even if Nebraska wins Mizzou will be playing in a good bowl game. They have won 2 straight after losing their first 2 games of the season.

Heading into this Big 12 game Missouri is 6-5 ATS and Kansas is 5-6 ATS. 24.5-points is a big betting spread and the head-to-head trends point to Kansas covering, as they have covered the spread in 5 of their last 7 games against Missouri and the underdog is 6-1 ATS in the last 7 games between these 2 teams.

Mizzou and their 41st ranked passing offense is led by Blaine Gabbert, who passed for over 300 yards last year against Kansas, but only passed for 172 in the win over Iowa State last weekend. In that game the Tigers had season lows in both points scored and total yards, but luckily their D came up big. Gabbert should have a better game this Saturday facing a Kansas pass defense that ranks 79th in the nation and gave up 408 passing yards last week. With the suspect secondary the Jayhawks have Gabbert should put up some great numbers.

The Tigers rushed for 134 yards last week and their rushing offense has played well as of late. Kansas may be in for a long game stopping the pass and the run and their rushing defense only ranks 107th in the nation.

To say Kansas does not have a dynamic offense is a tad of an understatement, as they rank 104th in total yards per game, 94th in passing yards per game, 83rd in rushing yards per game and most importantly 112th in points scored per game. The Jayhawks offense showed some signs of life last week against Oklahoma State with 179 yards in the 1st quarter, but then only amassed 109 yards the rest of the game. For the Jayhawks to have any chance at the upset QB Quinn Mecham and RB James Sims will have to play great.

Mizzou had a shutout last week against Iowa State and if they play D like that again this game may get ugly.

All the stats point to a Mizzou blowout and I think that is just what will happen this Saturday. If Nebraska wins on Friday the Tigers will look to run up the score to impress the powers that be to give them a good bowl. Kansas is simply overmatched on both sides of the ball, as Missouri will easily win this game as well as cover the big 24.5-point spread.

Betting Trends

Kansas is 3-9 ATS in their last 12 games against teams with a winning record and Missouri is 5-1 ATS in their last 6 games following a win and 2-6 ATS in their last 8 neutral site games.

Pick: Missouri -24.5
