The Louisville Cardinals wrap up their regular season when they head north to Piscataway, NJ to take on the Rutgers Scarlet Knights this upcoming Friday in a Big East matchup. Kickoff from Rutgers Stadium is set for 11 a.m. and the game will be broadcast live on ESPN2.

Louisville will try and end its season on a winning note after dropping three of its last four games. The Cardinals latest loss was a hard fought 17-10 defeat at the hands of West Virginia this past Saturday. Louisville failed to cover as a 3 ½ point home underdog as the Mountaineers held the Cardinals scoreless in the second half after leading by four points at halftime. The total stayed well ‘under’ the 47 point line.

The loss dropped Louisville to 5-6 both straight-up and against the spread for the year. The Cardinals are 2-4 SU in the Big East but motivation is running high for this game as one more win would make them bowl eligible for the first time since 2006. They will rely heavily on a defense that is giving up just 19.3 points per game and an offense that is ranked 36th in the country in rushing; averaging 177.2 yards on the ground per game. RB Bilal Powell has rushed for 1,207 yards on 188 carries and leads the team in with nine touchdowns. NFL Betting

Rutgers’ season has also taken a sharp downward turn with four straight losses heading into this week. To make matters worse, the Scarlet Knights have been outscored by a combined 151-96 over the four game skid. Last week, Cincinnati rolled up close to seventy points in a 69-38 loss. Rutgers was a 10 ½  point road underdog against the Bearcats and the total went way ‘over’  the 49 point line.

The Scarlet Knights are currently 4-6 SU but just 2-8 ATS this season. They are 1-4 SU in the conference, but can still get to 6-6 and possibly into a bowl with a win this week and next week at West Virginia. The way they have been playing lately makes this a tall task to say the least, but they too will be motivated to come away with a win this Friday.

To have any chance to win, Rutgers QB Chas Dodd will have to come up big. He has completed just 57.6 percent of his passes for 1,321 yards and nine TD’s. His primary target in this game will most likely be WR Mark Harrison, who leads the team with 681 receiving yards and eight touchdown catches.

Trends:

Louisville is 2-2 SU on the road this year and 3-1 ATS. The total has stayed ‘under’ in five of its last eight games.
Rutgers is 2-3 SU and 1-4 ATS in its last five home games. The total has ‘over’ in five of its last six games.

Head-to-head, the Scarlet Knights have won four out of the last six games SU and are also 4-2 ATS. Two years ago they rolled to a 63-14 win as a 12-point home favorite and last year they won 34-14 as a three-point road favorite. The total has gone ‘over’ in the last four games.

Both teams limp into this game with losing records, but Louisville has definitely looked the better of the two. Stick with the Cardinals to grind out a win on the ground and cover the 3 ½ points.

The Pick: Louisville – 3 ½
