The Pittsburgh Panthers will try inch closer to clinching the Big East title with a win, when they tangle with the South Florida Bulls this upcoming Saturday afternoon at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, FL. Kickoff is scheduled for 12 p.m. and the game will be broadcast live on ESPN2.

Pitt needs to pick up the pieces after getting stunned 30-28 by Connecticut last Saturday. The Panthers failed to cover as a six-point road favorite and the total went ‘over’  the 58 point line. The loss dropped them to 5-4 straight-up on the year and 4-3-2 against the spread. It was also their first loss in conference play. The Panthers are currently 3-1 SU and have just a one game lead over four other two-loss teams.

Pittsburgh’s run defense had no answer for UConn running back Jordan Toddman, who torched it for 222 yards on the ground in Saturday’s loss. Overall, the Panther’s defense has been fairly hard to score on. It is giving up an average of just 20.2 points per game; which is 29th best in the nation. Offensively, the Panthers are averaging 28.9 points per game; which ranks them 51st in the country. QB Tino Sunseri has completed 66.5 percent of his passes for 1,892 yards and has 13 touchdown throws. Two other key players are WR Jon Baldwin, who has 39 receptions for 641 yards and RB Ray Graham, who has 760 rushing yards on 110 carries. NFL Betting

South Florida has overcome a slow start to reel off three straight victories including a 24-21 OT thriller against Louisville last week. The Bulls covered as a two-point road underdog and the total stayed ‘under’ the 46 ½ point line. The win pushed South Florida to 6-3 SU for the season and to 4-5 ATS. It is 3-2 SU in Big East play.

The main reason for the Bulls turnaround can be attributed to a combination of a defense that is giving up an average of just 19.8 points per game to compliment an offense that has averaged 30 points a game in their past three after averaging just 23.6 in their first six games. QB B.J. Daniels has thrown for only 1,325 yards but he does have nine touchdown passes. RB Moise Plancher has run for 516 yards and has scored four TD’s.

Pittsburgh is 1-3 SU on the road this season and 1-1-2 ATS. The total has gone ‘over’ in six of its last 10 games overall.

South Florida is 5-1 SU in games played at home this year but just 3-3 ATS. The total has stayed ‘under’  in six of its last 10 games overall.

Head-to-head, Pitts has won four out of the last six games SU and is 4-2 ATS in the last six as well. The total has gone ‘over’ in four of those games. Two years ago, Pitt covered as a 13 ½ point road underdog in its 26-21win. Last year, the Panthers crushed the Bulls 41-14 as a 6 ½ point home favorite.

South Florida comes into this game riding a wave of momentum and can make a serious run a Big East title with a win. Take the Bulls at home to win this game outright as Pitts’  struggles on the road against quality teams continues.

The Pick: South Florida +3
