The Connecticut Huskies take on the Syracuse Orange in a Big East showdown this upcoming Saturday night with both teams still in the hunt for this year’s conference title. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. (ET) and the game will be broadcast live on ESPNU.

Expectations ran high for Connecticut coming into this season and after last week’s huge 30-28 upset over Pittsburgh they might finally be coming to fruition. The Huskies covered as a six-point home underdog and the total went ‘over’ the 48 point line. The win moved them to 5-4 both straight-up and against the spread on the year. More importantly, UConn is now 2-2 SU in the Big East with the tiebreaker over the 3-1 Panthers.

Consistency has been the Huskies biggest problem this season. They followed up losses to Rutgers and Louisville with wins over West Virginia and last week Pitt. A big part of this can be attributed to an almost non-existent passing game that is averaging just 156.7 yards per game; ranking it near the bottom of Division IA. A ground game led by RB Jordan Todman has helped make up some the shortcomings of a weak passing attack, but the Huskies are still only averaging 27 points per game. NFL Betting

Syracuse has been the surprise team this season in the Big East after winning just four games all last year. With last Saturday’s 13-10 win over Rutgers as a 2 ½ point road favorite, the Orange are now 7-3 SU and ATS overall and 4-2 SU in the conference. They did lose to Pitt 45-14 earlier in the year, so they will need to win out and get some help to lay claim to the conference title.

The biggest turn around for this team has been on the defensive side of the ball. Syracuse is ranked 13th in the nation in points allowed; giving up an average of just 17.8 points per game. Offensively, QB Ryan Nassib has completed 154-of- 277 attempts for 1,777 yards and 16 touchdowns, while RB Delone Carter leads the team in rushing with 939 yards on 179 carries. He also leads the team in TD’s with seven.

Connecticut is 1-4 both SU and ATS in its last four road games. The total has gone ‘over’ in four of its last six games overall.

Syracuse is 2-2 SU and ATS in its last four games at home. The total has stayed ‘under’ in five of its last seven games overall.

Head-to-head, the Huskies have won four out of the last five games SU and are also 4-1 ATS. The home team in this series has won five out of the last six games both SU and ATS. The only exception was two years ago when UConn won 39-14 as a 10-point road favorite. The total has gone ‘over’ in the last two games.

Both teams come into this game playing their best ball of the year, but the Orange defense should be the difference in this game. They will jam the box to shut down Todman, forcing the Huskies to try and beat them through the air. Definitely play the ‘under’ in this one and take Syracuse to win minus the four points.

The Pick: Syracuse -4
