No. 9 Nebraska Cornhuskers vs. No. 19 Texas A&M Aggies Preview

This Saturday in the Lone Star State Texas A&M (7-3) plays host to Nebraska (9-1), who can book a spot in the Big 12 title game with a win. College football lines have Nebraska as 3-point favorites in this game with a total of 55.

In their last games Texas A&M beat Baylor 42-30 and Nebraska beat Kansas 20-3.

These 2 teams have not played since 2007 when Texas A&M beat Nebraska 36-14 in Lincoln.

Nebraska only has to win one more game to win the Big 12 North and after Texas A&M they face Colorado. They have one of the best rushing offenses in the nation and they will be facing the strength of the Aggies’ D, which is their rushing defense.

Texas A&M has already qualified for a bowl game and while they are out of the BCS picture they can greatly improve their bowl positioning with a win over 9th ranked Nebraska. Their passing offense ranks 8th in the nation and they will be going up against a great Nebraska secondary. The Huskers have the nation’s 2nd ranked pass defense and last week they held Kansas to a grand total of 15 passing yards.

The Aggies come into this game hot, as they have won 4 games in a row and have averaged just over 41 ppg in that span.

Heading into this Big 12 match up Texas A&M is 6-4 ATS and Nebraska is 4-5-1 ATS. The Huskers are 3-1-1 ATS in their last 5 games against Texas A&M.

The Aggies have the nation’s 13th ranked rushing defense, but can they keep the Huskers from racking up a ton of yards on the ground? Nebraska has the nation’s 7th ranked rushing offense and they have 3 guys that can really bring it. QB Taylor Martinez is healthy and he cannot only air it out, but he also is the 2nd leading rusher for the Huskers with 957 yards and 12 TD.

He is joined in the backfield by the great RB duo of Roy Helu Jr. (991 yards 10 TD) and Rex Burkhead (647 yards 6 TD). Last week in the win over Kansas Helu Jr. and Burkhead combined for 162 yards and 2 TD.

The Aggies strength on defense is against the run, as their passing defense only ranks 102nd in the nation. However, last week in their win over Baylor they gave up 291 rushing yards. If they cannot stop the run in this game the offense will have to score a ton of points to bail them out.

While the strength of the Aggies’ offense is their passing attack RB Cyrus Gray rushed for 137 yards and 4 TD last week, which was the 4th straight game he rushed for over 100 yards. That is a concern for Nebraska since their rushing defense only ranks 63rd in the nation. If Gray can have a big game it takes a lot of pressure off QB Ryan Tannehill, who passed for 280 yards with 1 TD in the win over Baylor. Not only does Nebraska have a great secondary, but they also have  a solid pass rush that has 26 sacks on the season. The offensive line of the Aggies may be the key to them winning, as they have to open up holes for Gray and protect Tannehill and if they cannot do both their 4-game winning streak will be over.

The Aggies have been on fire, but Nebraska will put out those flames this Saturday. The Huskers will be able to run the ball at will and the Huskers’ D will shut down Tannehill and Gray. Nebraska will win this game and I don’t think it will be very close, as the Huskers will easily cover the spread.

Betting Trends

Texas A&M has covered the spread in their last 4 games and they have an Over record of 6-4 this season.
Nebraska has covered the spread in 4 of their last 5 road games and also has an Over record of 6-4 this season.

Pick: Nebraska -3
