Duke Blue Devils (3-7)

They aren’t a great football team but the Duke Blue Devils at least make things interesting every week. In Week 11, they almost came from behind to beat Boston College but fell just short – four yards, to be exact – of a winning touchdown.

Duke is heavily reliant on gunslinger Sean Renfree and its passing attack. How important is it for Duke to score through the air? Last week, the Blue Devils rushed 24 times…for four yards. That’s 0.2 yards per carry. Sure, they were against the country’s top-ranked run defense, but that’s a pathetic number. [soliloquy id=”82219″]

The question this week for Duke; does it look for redemption and run the ball more against a suspect Georgia Tech run defense or just put the ball in Renfree’s hands again and hope for the best?

Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets (5-5)

It looks like there was a silver lining to Josh Nesbitt’s broken arm. It allowed Georgia Tech the chance to give its backup quarterback, sophomore Tevin Washington, a proper look. So far, it looks like he fits the triple option offense nicely.

Georgia Tech only scored 10 points in its ugly loss to Miami last week but Washington flashed plenty of ability. He ran for 122 yards on 21 carries and was 7 of 16 for 101 passing yards and a touchdown. That actually looks like a typical Nesbitt stat line.

The Yellow Jackets, still the country’s top rushing team, tallied 308 yards on the ground even in a blowout loss.

The pick:

It’s becoming clear for bettors that, even with Nesbitt gone, we shouldn’t really treat Georgia Tech differently in our wagers (whether we’re for them or against them). The Jackets still run the ball like crazy and should carve up Duke’s 96th-ranked run defense. Georgia Tech is a respectable 28th against the pass as well, so it can weather the storm once Duke falls behind and Renfree starts airing it out like a madman.
