No. 24 Kansas State Wildcats vs. No. 17 Missouri Tigers Preview

In a Big 12 match up this Saturday that may not have BCS bowl implications, but is still important to both teams Missouri (7-2) hosts Kansas State (6-3). College football lines have Missouri as 13-point favorites in this game with a total of 55.5.

In their last games Kansas State beat Texas 39-14 and Missouri lost to Texas Tech 24-17.

Missouri has lost 2 straight Big 12 road games after beating undefeated Oklahoma in their last home game. The Tigers are now 3-2 in the Big 12 North and it looks unlikely they will play in the conference title game, as they will need Nebraska to lose twice and that is not likely with the remaining schedule the Huskers have.

Kansas State is bowl eligible for the first time since 2006 and they are coming off a solid win over Texas. In that game they were out-gained by the Longhorns, but they came up with 5 picks and they ran the ball well. The Wildcats have dropped 4 straight games against the Tigers and they have not beat Missouri in their house since the 2004 season. On top of that Kansas State has lost 7 straight games against ranked teams.

Missouri is undefeated at home this season (6-0) while Kansas State is only 1-2 on the road.

Both teams are 5-4 ATS in this season.

Many though Mizzou QB Blaine Gabbert would have a HUGE game against Texas Tech last week since Tech only ranks 118th in the nation in pass defense. That was far from the case, as Gabbert struggled for the 2nd straight game only going 12/30 for 95 yards. In his last 2 games he has a completion percentage of 41.7% as opposed to 67.3% for the first 7 games. He had some balls that could have been caught by his WR corps and in this game he will be facing a Kansas State pass defense that ranks 62nd in the nation.

Kansas State only ranks 91st in the nation with 13 sacks on the season and they will not get to Gabbert, who will have a big game

Mizzou has a better passing offense than rushing offense, but even though they lost last week the Tigers rushed for 260 yards. The Tigers may have another big game running the ball since the Kansas State rushing defense only ranks 113th in the nation, but played pretty well last week against Texas. The reason Texas did not run wild is that they got down early and had to air it out to come back. If Mizzou can establish the run and take an early lead they will be tough to beat.

Kansas State QB Collin Klein started the last game for the Wildcats and gave them a new look, as he is more of a threat with his legs. In the Texas win he rushed for 127 yards and a TD and only attempted 4 passes. He will likely get the start, but if Mizzou and their 57th ranked rushing D can contain him Carson Coffman will see some snaps since he is a better passing QB.

The main weapon the Wildcats have is RB Daniel Thomas, who rushed for 106 yards and 2 TD in the win over Texas. Thomas is 2nd in the Big 12 with 1,102 rushing yards and in last season’s loss to Mizzou he only had 79 yards on 23 carries. He has broke the 100-yard barrier in the last 3 games and if the Tigers can break that streak they will be in good shape.

One betting trend will continue and one will not, as the Wildcats have covered the spread in their last 4 road games and Missouri has covered the spread in 4 of their last 5 home games. The latter will continue, as Gabbert will have a big game and the Tigers will run the ball well, as Mizzou will easily win this game and cover the spread.

Pick: Missouri -13
