The Maryland Terrapins take on the Virginia Cavaliers this upcoming Saturday afternoon in an ACC matchup at Scott Stadium in Charlottesville, VA. Kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m. (ET). The game will be broadcast on ESPN3.com.

Maryland is enjoying a dramatic turnaround from last season when it only won two games and lost its last seven straight. The Terrapins are coming off a tough last-minute 26-20 loss to Miami last week as a 10-point road underdog. The total ended up a ‘push’ with a line of 46. The loss dropped them 6-3 straight-up on the season but they are now 6-3 against the spread. Maryland is currently 3-2 SU in the ACC.

A much-improved Terrapins’ defense is giving up an average of 20.4 points per game with ranks it 32nd in the nation in points allowed.. The offense is led by QB Danny O’Brian, who has completed 104-of-195 attempts for 1,282 yards. He has 14 touchdown passes against just four interceptions this year. WR Torrey Smith is the team’s leading receiver with 37 catches for 595 yards. He also leads the team with seven touchdowns. RB Davin Meggett leads the team in rushing with 557 yards on 99 carries. He is second on the team in touchdowns with four. NFL Betting

Virginia’s two-game winning streak, including a huge 24-19 win over Miami, came to an end after losing a wild 55-48 shootout against Duke last Saturday. The Cavaliers failed to cover as a two-point road favorite and the total went way over the 55 point line. The loss leaves them at 4-5 SU for the season and 5-4 ATS. They are 1-4 SU in conference play.

This year has been a solid turnaround as well for Virginia after losing its six games to end last season at 3-9 overall. The strength of this year’s team is a Cavalier offense is that is averaging 264.3 passing yards per game. QB Marc Verica has completed just 58.1 percent of his passes but he has thrown for 2,082 yards and 13 TD’s. The downside to his game is the 10 interceptions he has thrown to go along with these numbers. Virginia has a excellent pair of running backs in Keith Payne and Perry Jones. These two have combined for 1,231 yards on 246 carries. Payne is the team’s leading scorer with 15 TD’s.

Betting Trends:

Maryland is 1-3 SU and 2-2 ATS in its last four road games. The total has gone ‘over’ the total in five of its last eight games overall.
Virginia is 4-4 both SU and ATS in its last eight games at home. The total has gone ‘over’ in seven of its last 10 games overall.

Head-to-head, Virginia has won four out of the last six games SU and is 4-0 ATS in the last four. Two years ago they covered as a 13-point home underdog in a 31-0 shutout and last season they covered as a 3 ½ point road favorite in a 20-9 victory.

Maryland is much improved but so are the Cavaliers, who have dominated this series in recent memory and desperately need a win to keep their bowl eligibility chances alive.

The Pick: Virginia +1 ½
