No. 25 Texas A&M vs. Baylor Bears Preview

After Texas A&M (6-3) beat Oklahoma last week they are ranked for the first time all season and to stay in the top 25 they will have to beat a Baylor (7-3) team that has already secured their first winning record since joining the Big 12. College football lines has Texas A&M as 3-point favorites in this game with a total of 64.5.

In their last games Texas A&M scored a huge upset beating Oklahoma 33-19 and Baylor got killed losing to Oklahoma State 55-28.

The Aggies have won 3 straight after dropping 3 in a row and while they only have 2 losses in the Big 12 it is unlikely they will play in the conference title game. Texas A&M has one of the best run defenses in the nation and they will really have to play great this Saturday against Baylor and their exciting QB Robert Griffin III.

Griffin is the real deal and he leads the Big 12 and ranks 3rd in the nation with 327.5 yards of total offense per game. He will likely have to play a great game since the Bears’ defense only ranks 96th in the nation.

Baylor’s defense was exposed last week giving up 55 points to Oklahoma State and now they have to deal with another dynamic passing offense in Texas A&M.

This season Texas A&M is 5-4 ATS and Baylor is 5-5 ATS. The Aggies are 3-point betting favorites in this game and while the favorite has covered the spread in the last 4 games between these 2 teams the home team has covered the spread 5 times in the last 7 games.

The Aggies did not have a good defense last season and this season and after switching to a 3-4 they are now legit, especially against the run. LB Michael Hodges is a monster and had 2 sacks and 19 tackles last week in the game against Oklahoma and if he and his fellow Aggies can get to Griffin and keep him in the backfield they will be in good shape.

A&M also has to contain RB Jay Finley, who leads the Bears with 904 rushing yards and the Aggies have to make Griffin beat them with his arm. Griffin did have 267 passing yards last week in the loss to OSU, but he was picked off once and did not throw a TD.

Texas A&M has the nation’s 6th ranked run defense, but their pass defense only ranks 104th in pass defense.

Will Baylor play any D in this game? Last week they gave up 725 yards of offense to Oklahoma State and this week face a Texas A&M team that ranks 9th in passing offense and 48th in rushing offense. Aggies’ QB Ryan Tannehill threw for 225 yards and 2 TD with 2 INT last week in the HUGE win over Oklahoma and he will likely have another big game against a Baylor pass D that only ranks 105th in the nation.

The Aggies used a well-balanced attack to beat Oklahoma last week and they will look to do that in this game. To do that RB Cyrus Gray will have to play well like he did last week with 122 yards with 1 TD and he averaging 5.8 yards per carry. Against Oklahoma State the Bears gave up 290 rushing yards and if they give up a ton of yards again they will be toast.

The difference in this game is that the Aggies can, at least, play some run defense. Baylor can’t play any defense and A&M will rack up a lot of yards and while Griffin will keep it close the Aggies will win this game and cover the spread.

Even though in 4 of the last 5 games these teams have played the total has gone Under this is a different Baylor team and with the offense each team has the total will go Over in this game.

Betting Trends

Texas A&M is 5-2 ATS in their last 7 games as a favorite, 1-6 ATS in their last 7 road games against teams with a winning home record, and have an Over record of 4-0 in their last 4 road games as a favorite.

Baylor is 2-5 ATS in their last 7 games as an underdog and has an Over record of 4-1 in their last 5 home games.

Pick: Texas A&M -3 and the Over
