Northwestern

The Wildcats of Northwestern sit at 6-2 on the year, and they are unbeaten on the road. Pat Fitzgerald continues to get this team to play hard for the entire game every single week. They aren’t the most talented team, but they play disciplined football.

Dan Persa is the main man for this Northwestern offense. He suffered a head injury last weekend, but he is fully expected to play in this one. Persa is completing 74.4% of his passes, and he has 12 touchdowns compared to just three interceptions this year. Persa also leads the team in rushing, and he has six touchdowns on the ground. Jeremy Ebert is the main play maker on the outside for this team. Ebert averages 16.1 yards per reception, and he has seven touchdown catches already this year.

The Northwestern defense has been shaky against strong passing games, but solid against the run so far this year. Penn State’s offense has struggled to get on track almost all year. Northwestern must put pressure on Bolden and stuff the run this Saturday afternoon in Happy Valley. The defense allows a lot of yards, but they have done a nice job holding their opponent to field goals once they get into the red zone.

Penn State

The Nittany Lions picked up a huge win last weekend against the Michigan Wolverines. The team was opportunistic and pulled out a 41-31 win in front of their home crowd. Can Joe Paterno’s team keep the momentum going or will they revert to their earlier disappointing form?

The Penn State offense has struggled all year. Robert Bolden has struggled at quarterback, but he is a freshman and this wasn’t unexpected. The confusing part of Penn State’s offense this year has been their inability to run the football. Evan Royster finally had a big week against Michigan last week, but for most of the year it has been tough going on the ground. This line must continue to improve and the Nittany Lions must be able to run the football if they are going to be successful.

The Penn State defense has been the strength of the team this year. They did allow Denard Robinson to run for 191 yards last week, but they been solid for most of the season. The defensive line needs to do a better job pressuring the quarterback. Penn State has only picked up nine sacks all year. The Nittany Lions do a great job getting off the field on third down. Opponents are converting on only 28.3% of their third down conversion attempts so far this season.

The Pick:

Penn State still has plenty of question marks despite their big win against Michigan last weekend. Northwestern is 4-0 on the road this year, and they are 9-4 ATS in their last 13 games on the road. I think this game stays close all the way to the end, so I’ll take the underdog and the points in this one.

Northwestern vs. Penn State Score Prediction: Penn State 24 Northwestern 21

NFL OPENING NIGHT HOT SIDE! (WON AGAIN LY!)

As you probably already know, Ben Burns has historically fared EXTREMELY WELL on Opening Night of the NFL season. He did it AGAIN in 2018, going a PERFECT 2-0 on Opening Night, nailing both the Eagles, minus the points, and the 'Under.' This year, its the Bears hosting the Packers, a pair of teams that Burns knows like the back of his hand. You in?
