The Rutgers Scarlet Knights will try and keep their Big East title hopes alive against the South Florida Bulls this Wednesday night at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, FL. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. and the game will be broadcast live on ESPN2

Rutgers is coming off a 41-21 loss to Pittsburgh that put a serious dent in its conference title chances. The Scarlet Knights failed to cover as a 13 ½ point road underdog and the total went ‘over’ the 46 ½ point line. The loss dropped them to 4-3 straight-up on the year and 1-6 against the spread. Rutgers is 1-1 SU in Big East play while the Panthers moved into the driver’s seat in the conference at 3-0.

The main area of strength for Rutgers has been a stingy defense that is only allowing an average of 19 points a game which ranks it 23rd in the nation. The problem has been an offense that is only averaging 21.1 points per game, which is ranked 101st in the country. The main force behind the Scarlet Knights’ offensive attack has been WR Mohamed Sanu, who leads the team in receiving with 33 catches for 341 yards and in rushing with 286 yards on 53 carries. He also leads the team in touchdowns with six; two receiving and four rushing.

South Florida’s Big East title chances crashed and burned with losses to Syracuse and West Virginia, but the Bulls redeemed themselves last Friday night with a 38-30 win over Cincinnati in a game they were a 9 ½ point road underdog. The win moved the Bulls to 4-3 SU on the year and 3-4 ATS. They are 1-2 SU in the conference with Pitt and Miami still left on their schedule. NFL Betting

The Bulls’ defense has also been fairly tough to score on as it is giving up an average of 18.6 points per game, ranking it 20th in the country. Points have not been easy to come by for South Florida either as its offense is ranked 71st in the nation; averaging just 25.9 points per game. Some players to watch on the offensive side of the ball include RB Moise Plancher, who leads the team with 363 rushing yards on 80 carries and WR Dontavia Bogan, who leads the team in receptions with 26 for 402 yards.

Rutgers is 6-4 SU in its last 10 games but just 3-7 ATS. The Scarlet Knights are 2-1 SU and 1-2 ATS in their last three road games and the total has gone ‘over’ in seven of their last 10 games overall.

South Florida is 5-5 both SU and ATS in its last 10 games. The Bulls are 4-2 SU and 3-3 ATS in their last six home games and the total has stayed ‘under’ in six of their last 10 games overall.

Head-to-head, Rutgers has won the last four games SU and is 3-1 ATS. Last season the Scarlet Knights covered as a 1 ½ point home favorite in a 31-0 shutout and the year before they covered as a eight-point road underdog in a one-sided 49-16 victory.

Neither of these teams have played all that consistent this season but Rutgers has proven itself to be the better all-around team. Take the Scarlet Knights plus the 9 ½  points in this one as they have a great chance at winning this game outright.
