Northern Illinois

A lot was expected of this team and with a 3-1 record in their division this a huge game as they are trying to catch Toledo at the top of the MAC West standings. They have won three in a row but have only one road win this season, their last game at Buffalo by a point. It was a game they were heavily favoured and had to have so they will take it backers be damned.

UNI features a jumbo offensive line and is one of the better running teams in the nation. They have no problem running senior QB Chandler Harnish but they weren’t expecting him to be the leading rusher this season. At 220 pounds he packs more of a punch than their other backs but all of that running might be taking a toll on his passing. Even with his top 3 receivers back from last year his passing numbers are below what he put up last season.

The Huskies have not had much success at the Glass Bowl (1-16) or against Toledo in general (3-14 since 1990). All three of those wins have come since 2005 which is the one and only time UNI has beaten Toledo on the road. They are going to need to get their ground game going on Tuesday night if they want to reverse some of these horrible series numbers. It is very possible, I think this is still a pretty good team.

Toledo

It certainly seems that the Rockets used a tough non-conference schedule to get ready for the MAC. They are a perfect 4-0 in conference and looking good having already beaten Eastern Michigan and getting ready to host Northern Illinois, a team they have dominated. [soliloquy id=”82219″]

They have dominated in MAC play winning by an average well into double digits.

Toledo is the only team in the nation who is having success with a two quarterback system. I guess that shouldn’t be a surprise given that they did last year as well. It is hard to know when each will play but you can’t argue with the results. The Rockets are 28th in total offense and even though they flip flop Austin Dantin and Terrance Owens have only thrown three interceptions against 16 touchdowns.

For Toledo to maintain their edge in the division they will have to slow the Huskies running attack. They enter the game solid against the run but those figures have likely been aided by how much catchup their intra-conference opponents have had to play. In their three non-conference losses they were pushed around up front, yielding more than 100 yards in each loss. The battle in the trenches will certainly determine the outcome of this one.

ATS Pick: Northern Illinois +7.5
Over/Under Pick: Under
Score Prediction: Northern Illinois 30 – Toledo 27
