The Wisconsin Badgers have a very good football team this year, and they are team that needs to be watched closely. The experience on this team, especially on offense, could be just what they need to make a run at the Big 10 Conference Title this year.
You could make a solid argument that this may be the best offense in the Big Ten this year. It all starts up front, where the Badgers have what is probably the best offensive line in the league. In the backfield it is John Clay who will be the bruising tailback that carries it most often. Montee Ball and James White are also very good runners and will see action.
This running game will wear down most teams. The Badgers also have a solid quarterback in Scott Tolzien, who has proven he can make good decisions in this offense. This will be a balanced and extremely tough offense to stop all year long.
The Wisconsin defense is a notch below the best in the Big Ten. Can Wisconsin top teams like Iowa and Ohio State this year? The offense has the ability to get them to where they want to be, so the defense needs to step up and carry their weight as well. The defensive line could be an issue as O’Brien Schofield is gone and the Badgers lack a consistent run stopper.
Chris Borland should be the star of the defense, but he’ll need help around him to stuff the run.
UNLV
Bobby Hauck takes over this year as the new coach at UNLV. The Rebels have fielded a solid offense in the last few years, but defense has been a major problem. Hauck built up an amazing program at Montana, and now he will try to do the same thing with a bigger school in the Mountain West.
The Rebels have a solid running game in general with a stout offensive line and talented running backs. The wide receivers should be able to get open quite a bit, as they have proven they are plenty skilled to be successful in this offense. The question is at quarterback, where it appears Mike Clausen will start over Omar Clayton. Expect this to be a battle all year to see who starts for the Rebels at the quarterback spot. On the whole, this is a talented offense that should score points in bunches.
While the offense is quite impressive, this defense is one of the worst in the nation. The Rebels defense gave up 221 yards per game on the ground in 2009, and there are no signs of any help on the horizon. The team only mustered up 15 sacks all of last year, and 6.5 of those came from a player who graduated. The secondary isn’t great, but they are better than the front seven. The lack of pressure on the quarterback and horrible run defense puts the secondary in a bad spot on a consistent basis.

I hate to lay big points on a road favorite, but the Badgers are a much better team than the Rebels. The weakness of the Rebels is the strength of the Badgers. Wisconsin should be able to run the ball all over UNLV all day long. Wisconsin should win one this one handily. Take the Badgers -20.5.
