Who could forget last season’s epic 39-33 win for the Red Raiders over the Longhorns? After opening up the Longhorns at -16.5, football bettors have pushed that number up to 17.5; the college football betting ‘over/under’ has been lined at 66.

The Red Raiders may be without QB Graham Harrell and WR Michael Crabtree, but their offense still looks awfully explosive through two weeks of play. QB Taylor Potts has picked up right where Harrell left off, as he leads the nation’s top passing attack at 456.5 yards per game. The gunslinger has completed 66.7% of his passes for 861 yards and eleven total touchdowns (nine passing, two rushing) against three interceptions. He has done a fantastic job spreading the ball all over the field as well, as five different receivers have at least 75 yards through two games, and eight different receivers have found the end zone. Texas Tech ranks 16th in the country in total yards per game (502.5) and eighth in points per game (46.5).

It’s hard to complain about winning your first two games by a combined 70 points, but Longhorns bettors are 0-2 ATS this season by a total of just 2.5 points. Last week, HC Mack Brown’s club stormed back from a slow start to beat Wyoming 41-10. QB Colt McCoy has already thrown for 654 yards and five touchdowns this season. WR Jordan Shipley, his roommate, is the team’s top receiver after hauling in 15 passes for 241 yards and a touchdown through two weeks of play.

Much like Texas Tech, the offensive numbers for Texas are off the charts this season. The UT offense ranks eighth in the country in total yards (553.0 per game), ninth in passing yards (358.0 per game), 41st in rushing yards (195.0 per game), and sixth in points scored (50.0 per game).

Recently, this series has produced nothing but wild shootouts. Last season’s Texas Tech victory marked the sixth time in the L/7 meetings between these teams that has surpassed the closing ‘total’. The winning team has scored at least 35 points in every meeting since 2001, and Texas had covered three of the previous four meetings between these squads before losing last season. The Red Raiders haven’t won a game SU in Austin since 1997, where the Longhorns are 4-1 ATS the L/5 times they’ve welcomed HC Mike Leach’s club to Texas Memorial Stadium.
