The Tar Heels fell to Florida State in their last outing, blowing an 18-point lead resulting in a close 30-27 loss.

The Heels’ pass defense collapsed completely, allowing FSU quarterback Christian Ponder to throw for 395 yards, with 98 coming on one completion for a pivotal touch down. The loss to the Seminoles has most likely eliminated them from a berth in the ACC championship game, and may have also spoiled any hopes of postseason play.

Carolina QB T.J. Yates was 12-for-25 passing for 65 yards with an interception, threw one TD and ran for another.

The Tar Heels rushing attack piled up 238 yards on 41 attempts, with a 5.1-yard average. Running back Shaun Draughn ran for a season-high 126 yards on 23 carries, and WRs Greg Little, Johnny White and Jheranie Boyd combined for 109 passing yards, while the defense shut down FSU’s running game, holding the Seminoles to 43 yards on 25 rushes.

The Hokies dropped the toughest game of their 2009 schedule, in a 28-23 upset to Georgia Tech on Saturday. The loss drops them all the way down to No. 13 in the latest BCS poll. RB Ryan Williams was named ACC Rookie of the Week for the fifth time after rushing for 100 yards on 14 carries, with a pair of touchdowns at Georgia Tech.

Tech has won five straight against UNC since joining the ACC in 2004, although the last two have only been by a combined 10 points.

UNC vs. Va Tech Odds

The Hokies are –17-point favorites in this one.

Tar Heels vs. Hokies Free Pick

Look for the Hokies to win this one on the ground. UNC’s only hope is to find a way of shuttting down Tech’s runnning atttack, force a couple of turnovers, maybe post a defensive score and hang on. Virginia Tech wins this by 10.
