The College Football season may be 5-6 weeks away but our man James Hayes has been deep in study and will provide his take and 2010 College Football Predictions on as many NCAA teams as he can before the 2010/11 season kicks off.

Big 12 2010-2011 Football Previews: Nebraska Cornhuskers
Coach: Bo Pelini
2009 Record: 10-4

‘Big Red’ have ridden peaks and valleys (though mostly valleys) since the start of last decade. The addition of defensive whiz Coach Pelini three years ago, however, have the Huskers on the fast-track to the nation’s elite.
Last season, Nebraska might have had, pound-for-pound, the best defense in the FBS, spearheaded by unbelievable DT Ndamukong Suh.
Suh now plays for the Detroit Lions, but Pelini’s schemes and a handful of impact players remain.
The Husker defense is again likely going to be as stout as they come, if the offense can be in any way commensurate, Nebraska should enjoy its best season yet under Pelini.
Team Strengths:
Though Suh is now a memory, dominant players like DT Jared Crick, DE Pierre Allen and CB Prince Amukamara should still lead the defensive charge. On special teams, K/P Alex Henery is money. Nebraska also has a couple players capable of big things on offense; WR Niles Paul and HB Roy Helu come to mind.
If Helu’s back-up, sophomore Rex Burkhead, can continue to progress, Big Red will have a nice duo of runners.
Team Weaknesses:
Put simply, senior QB Zac Lee is underwhelming. In 2009 he only threw for a 58% clip and had 10 interceptions to only 14 TDs.
Highly-touted soph Cody Green is waiting behind the curtain, if Lee cannot show anything further, perhaps we will see a quarterback carousel in Lincoln.
2010-2011 Nebraska Football Prediction: 12-2
Pelini and his staff have done what they aimed to do at Nebraska in a hurry. Other formerly elite programs like Michigan and UCLA would love to have as much satisfaction with their hires in recent years, Rich Rodriguez and Rick Neuheisel, respectively. The Huskers must win with a hungry defense and an opportunistic offense.
Rabid Nebraska fans hope that a mini-step back on defense can be off-set with more prolific scoring drives. If that’s the case, the Cornhuskers will have a very nice 2010 campaign.
