Manziel totaled 346 yards and three touchdowns in less than three quarters of work as the Aggies blasted the visiting Mustangs.

The SMU offense was led by senior quarterback Garrett Gilbert who has shown some flashes of brilliance this season, as he went 37-of-62 for 310 yards against the Aggies, while Keenan Holman had career highs of 10 catches and 133 yards and caught the Mustangs’ lone touchdown.

It was Gilbert’s third straight 300-yard passing game, which ties a school record.

However, despite their respectable offensive effort, three costly turnovers sealed the Mustangs fate, which they could not recover.

And the Mustangs defense didn’t fare much better, ranking 115th in the FBS in points allowed at 37.7 a game and allowing an average of 473.3 yards per contest.

Meanwhile, Trevone Boykin once again started for the Horned Frogs, taking over for an injured Casey Pachall who broke his left forearm against Southeastern Louisiana in Week 2. [soliloquy id=”82219″]

Boykin didn’t miss a beat, throwing for 194 yards and adding a career-high 101 on the ground, while B.J. Catalon scored the only touchdown for the Horned Frogs who were upset at home by Texas Tech, 20-10.

It was TCU’s second loss in as many tries, losing to the Red Raiders, 56-53 in triple overtime last season.

On the other side of the ball, the TCU run defense was solid, giving up just 47 total yards.

Matt’s Prediction

The Horned Frogs have played well considering they have had to adjust to a new quarterback.

And I think Boykin should have his way against an SMU defense that hasn’t really shown they are any good at stopping either the pass or the run.

On the other side, the TCU pass rush is looking for a breakout game and this could be it, as they are likely to get mort then a few shots at Gilbert.

The Frogs cover here, but I don’t see a ton of points going up so the under is the better play.

TCU 30, SMU 10
