Team records:
Kentucky: 7-5 SU, 6-5 ATS
Clemson: 8-5 SU, 7-5 ATS

Preview:

The neatest storyline in this game is the clash of two electric players: Clemson’s C.J. Spiller and Kentucky’s Randall Cobb. Both are multi-purpose guys that can change a game in one play. With Clemson being a veritable recruiting hotbed and the Wildcats representing the SEC, there won’t be any shortage of athleticism on the field at any given time.

For Kentucky, a 7-5 record is respectable coming from a Southeastern Conference that needs no introduction (analysts give it verbal fellatio on a regular basis) and for Clemson, if a few games went just slightly different (TCU, and Georgia Tech twice this season) the Tigers would have been in a January bowl game.

Hopefully Spiller and Cobb make the Music City Bowl with the price of admission, but defensive and special teams output will also be interesting. With such dynamic return men, the coverage teams will have to be on point for both sides, to avoid giving up a momentum-changing big play.

Highly touted Tigers like DE Ricky Sapp, DL Da’Quan Bowers and DB DeAndre McDaniel will be looked to rattle Wildcats QBs Mike Hartline and Morgan Newton.

Though Kentucky faces a tough opponent virtually every week, I look for Clemson to take this game on the strength of some big plays on defense and plenty of impact from Spiller, who narrowly missed the call as a Heisman finalist.

2009 Team Stats

Total Offense: Kentucky 90th
Clemson 69th

Total Defense: Kentucky 59th
Clemson 22nd

Trends:
Kentucky is 5-2 SU in its last 7 games
The total has gone OVER in 5 of Clemson’s last 5 games
Clemson is 6-2 SU in its last 8 games

Pick: Clemson -10
