Missouri Tigers vs. No. 7 South Carolina Gamecocks Preview

The Gamecocks have a good offense, but where they shine is on defense, as they rank 7th in the nation in opponents’ points allowed. NCAAF lines have South Carolina as a 10-point home favorite with a total of 49.

After a 4-point win over Vanderbilt in their season opener they have won 2 blowouts in a row only giving up 16 points combined in those games.

In their last games South Carolina beat UAB 49-6 and Missouri got a solid 24-20 win over Arizona State.

On the season Missouri is 1-1 ATS with an Over/Under record of 1-1 and South Carolina is 2-1 ATS with an Over/Under record of 2-1.

QB Connor Shaw will start in this game after being injured in the season opener even though backup Dylan Thompson has thrown for 507 yards and 5 TD’s in the last couple of games. Damiere Byrd and Bruce Ellington are a couple of speedy 5’9″ WR’s that will be a handful for a Tigers’ pass defense that ranks 40th in the nation.

RB Marcus Lattimore has not had to carry a big workload in the backfield since the Gamecocks have not had close games in the last 2 outings, but in the UAB game he averaged over 7 yards per carry. Missouri’s strength on D is the run defense, as that unit ranks 21st in the nation defending the run. [soliloquy id=”82219″]

The Tigers’ defense forced 4 turnovers against Arizona State and they may need to force a few more to pull of the upset.

Missouri QB James Franklin should play in this big game after sitting out the Arizona State game. He has a decent WR corps and it is key that the offensive line plays well and gives him time in the pocket. USC has a great pass rush and they rank 6th in the nation in sacks.

After rushing for over 100 yards in the season opener Mizzou RB Kendial Lawrence has not cracked the 100-yard barrier since and in the ASU game he only averaged 3.9 yards per carry. He may have a hard time running the ball against a Gamecocks’ run defense that ranks 6th in the nation.

In some betting trends for this SEC match up Missouri is 0-4 ATS in their last 4 games following a ATS win and they have an Over record of 5-2 in their last 7 road games.

South Carolina is 4-0 ATS in their last 4 home games, 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games overall, and they have an Under record of 4-1 in their last 5 SEC games.

Jason’s Pick: I do not think Missouri will get blown out, but the Gamecocks will play solid D and Lattimore will have a good game and they will win and cover the spread.
