Mississippi

They are looking to get one more win to become bowl eligible but it won’t be easy with games against Georgia, Vanderbilt, LSU and Mississippi State to close the season.

Ole Miss stole a game at Arkansas last week despite getting outgained by more than 100 yards.  That is the kind of luck they have been having as their offensive and defensive numbers probably don’t justify their record at this point.  Transfer QB Bo Wallace has been just so-so.  He is an athletic playmaker and if the Rebels are to cover yet another number he will have to be sharper than he has been lately.

Ole Miss has to be hoping that the Bulldogs experience a letdown after beating Florida last weekend.  They are far from awful but it is going to take close to their best game just to keep it close.  They gave up 66 points to a Texas offense that is not nearly as good as Georgia’s which is why this one may not be that close.

Georgia

The Bulldogs have new life as they beat Florida and possess the inside track to returning to the SEC Championship as the East Division representative.  [soliloquy id=”82219″]

They close the schedule with 4 very winnable games and could be right there is some of the unbeaten teams start to fall by the wayside over the final weeks.   This might be their toughest challenge in avoiding the inevitable letdown after beating their biggest rival.

Beating Florida was hardly a beautiful triumph as both teams played poorly.  The lone star of the game might have been running back Todd Gurley who rushed for 118 yards against a very good Florida defense.  He carried the rock more times than he had the previous two weeks combined and showed good finishing power.  If he can rack up some numbers down the stretch and the Bulldogs keep winning he might have an outside shot at a trip to New York.

Beating the number on this one is contingent upon the defense.  They shut down Florida last week but gave up some points to Tennessee and even Florida Atlantic.  If the defense plays solid and they clean up the penalties from last week (14 of them) then they should win in a rout.  Improving their BCS credentials in the process.

Spread Pick: Georgia -14
O/U Pick: Under
Score Prediction: Georgia 38 – Mississippi 13
