Wolverines vs Cornhuskers NCAA Football Spread/Handicapping

Does Michigan really deserve that #20 ranking? They shouldn’t really benefit from the fact that the pollsters overestimated how good this team would be before the season started, right?

Michigan

Last week they barely escaped a 5th straight loss to Michigan State in what was a boring affair.  This week is the first of a two game road swing with Nebraska followed up by Minnesota.  Next week should be a cake-walk but they will be challenged on Saturday.

Senior QB Denard Washington has underwhelmed this year, even though he is 11th in the nation in rushing.  He has gotten the bulk of that in two games against weak competition but when it stiffens he struggles.

The same goes for his passing.  I think the media has figured it out too which is why they don’t make a big deal about him going 200/200 like he did against Air Force.

The hard thing about Robinson is that you still know he can always break a play.  It makes him a dangerous guy to bet against even if it is a sharp play.

Michigan is 1-2 ATS away from the Big House this year and this is their first ever trek to Huskerville.

Michigan won last year as a favourite but at home this team plays much better

Nebraska

This season has been pretty nondescript for the Huskers.  They have some momentum heading into this one after a tough road win at Northwestern. [soliloquy id=”82219″]

After getting slammed by Ohio State they could have gone into the tank but they held on last week. Unfortunately they might be without leading senior running back Rex Burkhead for this one.  He turned his knee awkwardly and is questionable as this is being written.

Burkhead has been a monster this year averaging nearly 9 yards per carry.

But in his previous absences Ameer Abdullah, a speedy sophomore has been very productive.  QB Taylor Martinez also has been getting better as the season progresses.

He will never be pretty throwing the ball but he is completing 67% of his passes and has already thrown more TDs than all of last season.

Against NW last week he was superb.

Burkhead being out is a blow but not as much as you would have thought before the season.

If Martinez plays well Nebraska should do well at home.  In last year’s meeting he was a non-factor and that won’t do this time around.

The only thing that worries me is that Blackshirts have not been good against the run this year.

Spread Pick;  Nebraska -2.5
O/U Pick:  Under
Score Prediction:  Nebraska 28 – Michigan 19
