With a date against Alabama looming, it’s time to start considering the look ahead factor for LSU, but it’s unlikely that affects them this Saturday, with the game still a slight ways away on Nov. 9.

The LSU offense took a small step backward in their last game against Florida, but that was to be expected against a solid Gator defense. Quarterback Zach Mettenberger completed just nine of 17 passes for 152 yards, and the Tigers were held under 35 points for the first time this season.

The bright spot: running back Jeremy Hill rushed for 121 yards on 19 carries. The unit will look to bounce back in a hurry, and will have a chance to against an Ole Miss defense that is dealing with injuries. LSU is averaging 41.4 points per game on the year.

The LSU defense did a fine job against Florida, keeping the Gators out of the endzone in a 17-6 win. The unit was especially tough on Gators quarterback Tyler Murphy, who was able to throw for only 115 yards, and was sacked four times by four different players, and their day could have been even better if they hadn’t dropped three potential interceptions. Ole Miss’s 3-3 record doesn’t tell the whole story, as their three losses have come against teams that are currently ranked in the AP poll.

Quarterback Bo Wallace got the Ole Miss offense back on track last week against Texas A&M, with the team scoring 21 of their 38 points in the fourth quarter, but they couldn’t keep pace with the Aggies in a 41-38 loss. Wallace completed 22 of 36 passes for 301 yards and three touchdowns. His favorite target on the day was receiver Laquon Treadwell, who brought in eight balls for 77 yards and a pair of scores.

The Rebels’ defense is ailing, dealing with a slew of injuries as they get set to face LSU. Leading tackler Serderius Bryant is the most impactful player expected to miss Saturday’s game as he deals with a concussion.

The road team is 14-2 ATS in the last 16 meetings between these schools, so it’s certainly tempting to consider taking LSU in this one, but their defense has been beatable this season, and their offense has played at a level we’re not used to seeing from the Tigers. Expect Ole Miss to get their points, while the Tigers come out on top in the end. Last year’s meeting produced 76 points.

The over is 4-0 in the last four meetings between these teams.
