LSU’s wild ride came to an end with a loss to Georgia last weekend. The team has been getting unprecedented offensive play this season, even putting up 41 points at Sanford Stadium. This game means a lot to LSU, as they have a tough road ahead, with No. 1 Alabama and No. 9 Texas A&M still on tap.

Quarterback Zach Mettenberger has been a revelation for the Tigers, and his season reached a whole new level on Saturday. Metteneberger threw for a career-high 372 yards in a hostile environment in Georgia, completing 23 of 37 passes to get there. Mettenberger’s favorite target on the night was Jarvis Landry, who hauled in 10 balls for 156 yards and a score.

While the LSU offense had a strong day, they were undone by a poor performance by the team’s defense. Aaron Murray carved the unit apart, throwing for four touchdown passes in a 44-41 win. [soliloquy id=”82219″]

Part of the LSU’s failure in stopping, or at least slowing, Murray was their inability to generate much pressure on him, failing to record a sack in the contest. When all was said and done, Georgia was able to accumulate 494 yards of offense.

Mississippi State rolled right over Troy their last time out, cruising to a 62-7 victory. The 62-point performance was the highest total produced by the school since 1994. 35 of those points came in the second quarter, helping the team to a 45-7 halftime lead. Quarterback Dak Prescott led the way, completing 13 of 21 passes for 233 yards and a score, adding 53 yards and two scores on the ground, even scoring on a 36-yard reception. He did it all! Jameon Lewis had an equally diverse day, which included a 50-yard touchdown reception, and 8-yard run, and he threw the 36-yard touchdown pass to Prescott. In total, the Bulldogs racked up 551 yards of offense, 349 of which were generated in the first half.

A repeat performance from the Bulldog offense is unlikely, as the unit ranked 13th out of 14 SEC teams in offense entering the game with Troy.

It will be easy for LSU to look ahead to tougher matchups down the line, but coming off a loss, expect a focused Tigers team to get back to the style of play that led to routes in each of their first four games. Zach Mettenberger is looking like the real deal, and should help LSU to build a comfortable margin.

The Tigers are 12-3 ATS in their last 15 games against the Bulldogs.

The play: LSU -9.5
