Louisiana Tech Bulldogs 2012 NCAA Football Gambling Odds & Predictions

The WAC is in shambles right now. This is a conference that will have just seven members as a part of its football roster this year. Louisiana Tech will leave for Conference USA after this season, but they’d like to take home another WAC title before leaving. The Bulldogs went 8-5 and lost to TCU in the Poinsettia Bowl.

WAC 2012-2013 College Football Previews: Louisiana Tech
Head Coach: Sonny Dykes
2011 Record: 8-5
Louisiana Tech Gambling Odds from JustBet to win BCS Championship: (Part of Field) +1,800
Louisiana Tech Gambling Odds from 5Dimes to win WAC: -175

Louisiana Tech is a program that is on its way up. Last year, the Bulldogs lost by a single point to Houston and lost in overtime to Mississippi State. They did beat Ole Miss in a non-conference matchup. They’ll get some chances to beat big schools from power conferences again this year. Louisiana Tech returns 16 starters from last year’s highly successful team.

Team Strengths:

Louisiana Tech is absolutely loaded in the defensive backfield. Chad Boyd and Jamel Johnson are two great safeties at the back of the defense. Senior Dave Clark is a real leader at the cornerback spot as well. There is tons of athleticism in this group, and I simply don’t expect this unit to get beat very often in this conference.

The Bulldogs have an offensive front that should provide a terrific push for the running game. Louisiana Tech returns four offensive linemen from a group that was very good last season. Senior Stephen Warner is a great leader at the center position.  [soliloquy id=”82219″]

The wide receiver spot is a major area of strength for the Bulldogs in 2012. Senior Quinton Patton is one of the best play makers in the nation at wide receiver. Patton had 79 catches for 1,202 receiving yards in 2011. Expect even more from him this year. Myles White and David Gru should also be very solid.

Team Weaknesses:

Louisiana Tech lost its two best linebackers and leading tacklers from a year ago. They lost Adrien Cole and Jay Dudley, who made 128 tackles and 102 tackles. The two guys who are stepping in for them had just 23 tackles and 19 tackles last season. The Bulldogs will have a hard time replacing these play makers on the defensive side of the ball.

Louisiana Tech’s running game is a bit suspect. Colby Cameron and the Bulldogs offense should be able to move the ball extremely well through the air, but the best teams in the nation all have great balance. There is no game breaker in this spot, and that could come back to bite them against strong non-conference opponents.

2012-2013 Louisiana Tech Football Prediction: 9-4

Louisiana Tech plays a difficult non-conference schedule. A key game to watch will be their contest at Houston in the second week of the year. The Bulldogs could certainly win that game, and if they do it will give them a ton of momentum. Once this team gets into conference action, the schedule is extremely easy. There really isn’t anyone in this league who should even be able to hang around with the Bulldogs.

Look for Louisiana Tech to have a big season. The Bulldogs are on their way up.
