Rajin’ Cajuns vs Gators NCAA Football Spread/Handicapping
I doubt we are going to see a headline “Shocker from the Swamp” but this Lafayette team in respectable. They are in the middle of the Sun Belt and last week handed Louisiana-Monroe their first conference loss – yet that Monroe team that was making the SEC look silly.

Lafayette
At 5-3 they should easily qualify for a bowl game this year and could conceivably get into the race for a conference title if they beat Western Kentucky next week.
The Cajuns average 35ppg led by QB Terrence Broadway.

If that name seems a little familiar it might be because Broadway used to be with the Houston Cougars, transferring when it was clear he wasn’t in their long term plans. Still you know Houston/Kevin Sumlin can spot QB talent so it should be no surprise he is carving things up. His last two games he has thrown for 373 and 374 yards. He is an effective runner too with 5 rushing TDs on the season.
This is a huge number but what do you expect with a Sun Belt team visiting the Swamp. They are going to be facing the toughest defense they have faced all season long but the real question is how their own defense will stack up. Against Oklahoma State they were 22 point dogs on the road and got torched but the Cowboys are a much better offensive team than the Gators, its not even close. [soliloquy id=”82219″]
Florida
The Gators have an odd finish to their schedule with Lafayette this week, Jackson State next and then Florida State. That is three straight non conference tilts so all they can do is hope that Georgia stumbles against Auburn this week so they can sneak into the SEC title game. Not very likely but they still might get to a BCS game if they beat FSU and Georgia succumbs to Alabama as expected.
After losing to the Bulldogs the Gators barely won against Missouri. This was another fail as a favourite as they scored just 14 points against the Tigers. The Gators were outgained by more than 50 yards, relying on their top defense again as they intercepted Tigers QB James Franklin 4 times. Running back Mike Gilleslee was practically their entire offense scoring the winning TD on a pass play where he did all the work. QB Jeff Driskel does not look very good right now.
With the Gators offense so weak it is hard to like them with such a big number. Sure they could pitch a shutout but even if they do they will have to put some points on the board. They hosted Kentucky earlier in the season and won 38-0 but I think the Cajuns are a lot better than those Wildcat and should put up between 10 and 14 points.
