As for Western Kentucky, they picked up a big win in their opener over rival Kentucky, but then dropped two games in a row, including a Sun Belt game at South Alabama. They’ve also won three games in a row, including a win in their second Sun Belt game of the year last week against Louisiana-Monroe.

The Hilltoppers topped Louisiana-Monroe 31-10, and were of course led by standout running back Antonio Andrews. Andrews gained 155 yards on 27 totes, including a pair of touchdowns. Andrews’s touchdowns didn’t come until the second half though. It was quarterback Brandon Doughty who got Western Kentucky on the board initially, connecting on passes of 33 and 17 yards for scores in the first quarter. Doughty completed 24 of 36 passes for 370 and those two scores. Doughty’s 370 yards are a Western Kentucky record in FBS play. Andrews remains the top weapon in the Hilltoppers’ attack. He leads the nation with 882 rushing yards and nine rushing touchdowns. [soliloquy id=”82219″]

The Western Kentucky defense allowed 10 points to Louisiana-Monroe following those two scores, but buckled down after that and didn’t allow another point the rest of the way. The Warhawks racked up 391 yards of offense in the game

Louisiana-Lafayette’s last game was their Sun Belt opener, and they won it, beating Texas State 48-24. Quarterback Terrance Broadway matched a career-high with four touchdown passes. He completed 18 of 23 passes for 335 yards in the game. Two of his scores went to Jamal Robinson, who hauled in a total of four balls for 114 yards. Broadway connected with 10 different receivers in all.

The Ragin’ Cajuns were sitting comfortably with a 45-3 lead before Texas State made some noise, largely due to a pair of long kick returns by Brandon Smith, one for 92 yards, and the other for 100 yards. The last of their touchdowns came on a two-yard plunge by Duke DeLancellotti with just over a minute to play.

The Hilltoppers getting this game at home could make all the difference. The Ragin’ Cajuns haven’t looked good on the road this season, losing at Arkansas and Kansas State, then barely scraping by Akron. Western Kentucky has covered the spread in 22 of their last 30 games against conference opponents.

The Hilltoppers are 9-4 ATS in their last 13 home games, and 8-1 ATS in their last nine games played in the month of October.

The play: Western Kentucky -4
