Point spread: Panthers -10
Over/Under: 42.5

Connecticut’s, season as a hole, has gotten off to a shaky start with a 3-5 straight-up (2-5 against the spread) record overall, but it is 1-1 SU in the Big East and right in the thick of the conference title race. Two weeks ago the Huskies knocked-off South Florida 16-10 as 7.5 home underdogs after getting blasted by West Virginia 43-16 in their conference opener the week before as 19-point road underdogs. The total has stayed ‘under’ in five of their seven games.

While Connecticut’s offense has struggled to find the end zone all season long with an average of just 22.3 points a game, its defense has been stout; giving up an average of 20.7 points which is ranked 29th in the nation.

If UConn’s start has been shaky, then Pittsburgh’s start has to be considered downright disappointing. For a team that had aspirations of returning to the national spotlight, its 3-5 SU start (2-5) has been one frustration after another. Amazingly enough, the Panthers are also 1-1 SU in conference play and also in the mix for the title. [soliloquy id=”82219″]

The Panthers have lost their last two games as six-point favorites. First it was a 34-10 loss to Rutgers on the road on Oct. 8 and then two weeks ago they dropped a 26-14 decision to Utah at home. Their offense has fallen to 75th in the country in scoring with an average of 25.3 points a game.

Connecticut is 6-1 ATS in its last seven conference games and the total has stayed ‘under’ in eight of its last 11 games as an underdog.

Pitt is 2-5 ATS in its last seven games overall and the total has stayed ‘under’ in five of its last six games as a favorite.

Head-to-head in this series, the Huskies are 4-1 ATS in the last five meetings and the total has stayed ‘under’ in two of the last three meetings. While the ‘under’ may be the best play in this game, stick with the Panthers to put together a decent effort at home to win this game by more than 10 points.

The Pick: Pittsburgh 24 vs. Connecticut 13
