NCAA Football Previews – Central Florida Knights vs UAB Blazers

The Central Florida Knights will try and get back over .500 on the season when they square-off against the UAB Blazers this Thursday night in a Conference-USA East Division clash. The game is slated to kick-off at 8 p.m. and it will be available on ESPN3.com.

Point spread: Knights -14.5
Over/Under: 44.5

UCF’s season has not gone according to plan with a 3-3 straight-up start (2-4 against the spread) including a 17-10 loss to Florida International on Sept.17 as a 6.5-point road favorite and a 38-17 loss to SMU as a 3.5-point road underdog this past Saturday. The total has stayed ‘under’ in five of its six games.

Despite the slow start, the Knights are still very much in the hunt for the C-USA East Division title with a 1-1 SU conference record and four division games left to play starting with the Blazers on Thursday night. They have a rushing offense that is averaging 183.5 yards a game and a defense that is holding its opponents to just 14.7 points a game, so they are more than capable of going on a run to turn things around.

The future prospects for UAB are not nearly as bright. It has stumbled and fumbled it way to a 0-6 SU start (4-2 ATS) while getting outscored 198-79 along the way. Its latest setback was a 37-20 loss to Tulsa this past Saturday as a 21.5-point road underdog. The total has stayed ‘under’ in five of its six games. [soliloquy id=”82219″]

The Blazers are pretty much ranked at the bottom of D-IA across the board with an offense that has been unable to effectively run or pass the ball coupled with a defense that cannot keep opposing teams out of its end zone. The only bright spot has been wide receiver Jackie Williams, who has 33 receptions while averaging 9.7 yards a catch.

The Knights are 14-5 ATS in their last 19 conference games and the total has stayed ‘under’ in eight of their last nine games overall.

The Blazers are 2-5 ATS in their last seven games in Conference-USA and the total has stayed ‘under’ in four of their last five conference games.

Head-to-head in this series, UCF is 6-1 SU and 5-2 ATS in the last seven meetings and the total has gone ‘over’ in four of the last five meetings. Do not worry about the two-touchdown spread in this game as the Knights roll to a convincing road victory over the hapless Blazers.

The Pick: UCF 28 vs. UAB 9
