Iowa State is coming off a thrilling 44-41 triple-overtime victory over in-state rival Iowa, from the Big Ten, in a game it closed as a 6.5-point home underdog. The total easily went ‘over’ the 44-point line. This followed a 20-19 win over Northern Iowa as a seven-point home favorite in its season opener. The total in this game stayed ‘under’ the 44-point line.

The Cyclones ran up 473 yards of total offense on the Hawkeyes, including 194 yards on the ground led by Shontrelle Johnson’s 108 yards on 18 carries. Through two weeks of the season, the Cyclones are averaging 233 yards through the air and 167.5 yards a game on the ground.

Connecticut will look to bounce back from a tough 24-21 loss to Vanderbilt last Saturday as a 1.5-point road underdog. The Huskies opened their season with a 35-3 romp over D-IAA Fordham as a 39-point home favorite. The total stayed ‘under’ in both of these games. [soliloquy id=”82219″]

The mass exodus of talent from last season’s Big East champion squad has left this UConn team with a number of question marks, but running back Lyle McCombs has done a good job answering some in the running game with 259 yards on 51 carries. He should see a good deal of action in this game, as the Huskies’ passing attack is still trying to get on-track.

Iowa State is 2-4 against the spread in its last six games and the total has stayed ‘under’ in six of its last eight games. Connecticut is 5-3 ATS in its last eight games and the total has stayed ‘under’ in seven of its last nine games. These two teams have not played one another since 2002 when the Huskies won 37-20 as 18.5-point road underdogs.

Saturday’s game has let-down written all over it for a Cyclone team that is coming off the emotional high of a big win at home while having to go on the road the following week. This one will not be pretty, but the Huskies grind out a win that covers the 4.5-point spread.
