Boise State is coming off another stellar season in which it posted 12 wins against just one loss including a 26-3 thrashing of Utah as a 15.5-point favorite in the MAACO Las Vegas Bowl. The Broncos finished the year ranked ninth in the final AP poll, but have serious aspirations for a BCS title this season as the fifth-favorite at 14/1.

The Broncos return 14 starters from last year’s team including Heisman Trophy finalist Kellen Moore , who threw for 3,506 yards and 33 touchdowns in 2010, while completing an amazing 71.3 percent of his attempts. Also back is RB Doug Martin, who led the team in rushing with 1,113 yards and in scoring with 14 TD’s. [soliloquy id=”82219″]

Georgia head coach Mark Richt enters the 2011 season already under fire after his team finished last season with a disappointing 6-7 record. A lopsided opening-day loss to a Mid-Major at home could really turn up the heat, so the pressure is on the Bulldogs to put forth a solid effort against the Broncos.

If that is to happen, Georgia will need a solid performance from quarterback Aaron Murray, who is coming off a year where he threw for 3,049 yards and 24 touchdowns and appeared to gain a world of confidence as the season progressed. He will need someone to step up and be his go-to guy at wide receiver with the departure of A.J. Green.

Boise State lost only one game straight-up last season, but it was 8-4 against the spread. The total has stayed ‘under’ in six of its last eight games. Georgia went 5-8 ATS last season and the total has gone ‘over’ in eight of its last 10 games.

Head-to-head, these two last met in 2005 with the Bulldogs coming away with a 48-13 victory as a 7.5-point home favorite. That was then and this is now, as Boise State makes an early statement as a legitimate BCS title contender with a big win on opening day.

Betting Trends:

BOIST are 10-4 ATS in their last 14 games overall.
Under is 27-12 in GEO last 39 games in September.

The Pick: Boise State 28   Georgia 21
