Liberty Bowl viewers will get to enjoy a top-tier NFL prospect in Razorbacks pivot Ryan Mallett. Six-foot-six, 250 lbs with a cannon arm, the young Michigan transfer has led a Hogs attack that is tenth in the FBS in passing; Mallett is also 14th in the nation in total offense with 282 ypg. East Carolina, on the other hand, ranks 110th in the country in pass defense.

East Carolina has been a consistently strong team in Conference USA, but the Pirates haven’t faced too many Malletts and they don’t have former RB Chris Johnson (now Tennessee Titans tailback flirting with records) toting the rock for them. Patrick Pinkney is a veteran field general and Dominique Lindsay and Dwayne Harris are excellent offensive weapons, but ECU just doesn’t pull some of the recruiting coups that snake-in-the-grass Arkansas head coach Bobby Petrino is capable of. 
The games aren’t played on paper, but Mallett would probably still toss a couple of TDs if he were throwing paper airplanes.
Wideouts Greg Childs, Joe Adams, Jairus Wright and TE D.J. Williams all benefit from Mallett’s proficiency and surely enough of them will be open against ECU in Memphis.
To ECU’s credit, they don’t turn the ball over and they have strong special teams.
Every element of the Pirates’ game will have to be well-oiled if they are to have a chance against the Razorbacks.
Mallett is pondering making the leap to the NFL next season – it may be the last chance to catch him as a collegian. Don’t miss the opportunity.
