Kansas Jayhawks vs. No. 6 Oklahoma State Cowboys Preview

The Jayhawks won their first 2 games of the season beating a couple of cream puffs, but in their last 2 games, against legit teams, they have given up an average of 55.5 points per game and their defense ranks dead last in the nation. NCAA lines have OSU as massive 31-point favorites with a total of 73.5.

In their last games Kansas was crushed losing to Texas Tech 45-34 while OSU came back to beat a ranked Texas A&M team on the road 30-29 a couple weeks back.

Kansas ranks 108th in the nation in pass defense and in their loss to Texas Tech they gave up 366 yards through the air. The Kansas secondary really has a massive task in this game trying to keep Brandon Weeden (1,592 yards 10 TD 6 INT) from lighting up the scoreboard.

OSU’s WR duo of Justin Blackmon and Josh Copper each caught 11 passes for a combined 244 yards in the win over Texas A&M and for the Jayhawks to have any chance to win they will have to pressure Weeden and come up with some INT. However, Kansas only has 5 sacks on the season and they only have 1 INT.

Not only do the Jayhawks have to worry about Weeden, but also Cowboys’ RB Joseph Randle, who has rushed for over 100 yards in 3 of the first 4 games and is averaging 5.6 yards per carry with 7 TD. Look for him to break the 100-yard barrier facing a Jayhawks’ rushing defense that ranks 118th in the nation. [soliloquy id=”82219″]

The strength of the Kansas offense is their rushing offense, which ranks 11th in the nation. For them to have any chance to pull off the major upset RB James Sims (339 yards 4 TD) will have to have a good game. The OSU run defense only ranks 85th in the nation.

Kansas QB Jordan Webb leads a decent passing offense and he did have 239 passing yards with 3 TD, but he was also picked off 3 times and the Jayhawks will get blown out if he turns the ball over multiple times.

Betting Trends

On the season Kansas is 2-2 ATS and has an O/U record of 4-0 and OSU is at 3-1 ATS and has an O/U record of 2-2.

The Jayhawks are 2-8 ATS in their last 10 road games, 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games against teams with a winning record, and has an Under record of 4-1 in their last 5 games as an underdog of 10.5 points or more.

The Cowboys are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 Big 12 games, 12-3 ATS in their last 15 games, and has an Over record of 4-1 in their last 5 games as a home favorite of 10.5 points or more.

OSU has covered the spread in 7 of their last 8 games against Kansas.

Jason’s Pick: OK, Kansas will not win this game, but will they cover the 31-point spread? Hmmmm, I think they will, as while their D will not be able to contain the dynamic Cowboys’ offense the Jayhawks will score some points. Take the Over as well, as a ton of points will be scored in Stillwater this Saturday.
