NCAA Football Betting – Orange Bowl Preview

Talk about a contrast in styles. While the Iowa Hawkeyes are about as plain-jane as you get for a football team, the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets have about as exotic an offense as you can find.

The triple option meets the base formations in this matchup, which is an underrated BCS matchup. Bookmaker (Bookmaker Sportsbook Reviews) opened the line for Georgia Tech as a 2.5-point favorite and it has since grown by a point. Here is a preview of the Orange Bowl:

How They Got Here: Iowa Hawkeyes

Internet sports betting cappers know that Iowa really blew it this year but they still managed to weave their way into a BCS bowl. The Hawkeyes had their best start to a season in school history when they started 9-0 and while they had a clear two-game lead in the Big Ten, they ended up coughing it up. A seemingly harmless home game against Northwestern turned out to be a loss when starting quarterback Ricky Stanzi was lost to a leg injury.

With a freshman quarterback leading the way, the Hawkeyes lost to Northwestern, then lost on the road at the Horseshoe to Ohio State. A 12-0 win over Minnesota was enough to give them a 10-2 finish and a berth in the Orange Bowl.

This team isn’t spectacular but they play smart and they play hard. They are a physical team to play against and their defense is always first rate. They aren’t pretty but they do get the job done.Bet on College Football

How They Got Here: Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets

It took Paul Johnson just two years to reign atop the ACC as his triple option has taken almost every defense by storm. They ran over everything in sight save for the Miami Hurricanes and their rivals in Georgia.

Sports handicapping experts saw the Yellow Jackets defense struggle down the stretch but even so, only two teams were about to outscore this offense all year long. Facing off with the Hawkeyes, a conservative unit, it will be interesting to see if they can match points with the busy bees.

The Matchup

The Hawkeyes defense typically doesn’t budge as evidenced by their 3.5 yards per carry allowed but it is very hard to prepare for the triple option. The only way you get good at stopping it is by seeing it regularly.

This will be a problem for the Hawkeyes and head coach Kirk Ferentz has admitted that he doesn’t have a ton of experience with it.

The Yellow Jackets will be too much to hand for Iowa and they’ll – literally – run away with this one.
