Big East Football Previews – Uconn Huskies vs Cincinnati Bearcats

The Connecticut Huskies will look to play the role of spoiler this Saturday afternoon when they face the Cincinnati Bearcats at Paul Brown Stadium in this Big East conference clash.

Date/Time: Saturday, Dec. 3   12 p.m. (ET)
Venue: Paul Brown Stadium, Cincinnati, OH.
Broadcast: ESPN
Huskies @ Bearcats Lines by BetOnline.com
Point spread: Bearcats -10
Over/Under: 46

The kick-off is slated for 12 p.m. and the game will be broadcast nationally on ESPN.

Connecticut’s chances at repeating as conference champions ended with a 34-20 loss to Louisville as a one-point home favorite on Nov. 19, but a 40-22 victory over Rutgers as a 3.5-point home underdog this past Saturday kept it hopes of going to a bowl alive if it can win this week.

The Huskies come in at 5-6 straight-up (4-7 against the spread) and 3-3 SU in conference play. If they are going to have any chance at picking-up win number six, their offense will score more than a very pedestrian 24 points a game or their defense will have to find a way to quickly improve upon the 28 points a game it has given-up over its past four outings.

Cincinnati is in position to claim its second Big East title in three seasons as a win guarantees it a tie with the BCS ranking being the tie-breaker. The Bearcats are currently 8-3 SU (6-5 ATS) overall and 4-2 in conference play. They own the head-to-head tie-breaker over 5-2 Louisville by virtue of a 25-16 win on Oct.15 as 13-point home favorites.

However, a 24-21 loss to West Virginia on Nov.12 as three-point home favorites could prove to be their undoing if all three teams end-up tied with five wins. [soliloquy id=”82219″]

First, Cincinnati needs to take care of winning this game behind a rushing attack that is averaging 181.4 yards a game and an offense that is scoring an average of 33.4 points a game. The Bearcats also boast a defense that is giving-up an average of just 19.4 points a game.

The Huskies are 0-4 ATS in their last four games as underdogs on the road. The total has gone ‘over’ in their last four conference games.

The Bearcats are 1-4 ATS in their last five games as favorites. The total has stayed ‘under’ in their last four games against the Big East.

Head-to-head in this series, Cincinnati is 4-2 SU in the last six games, but just 2-4 ATS. The home team is 5-1 ATS in the last six meetings and the total has gone 3-3. Stick with current form this time around as the talent gap on both sides of the ball clearly favors the Bearcats to cover the 10-points at home.

The Pick: Cincinnati 31 vs. Connecticut 17
