Quarterback Ryan Williams tossed two touchdowns while Dallas Crawford scored three times as the Hurricanes broke the school record of 75 points (Fordham in 1954) against the Tigers.

Senior starting quarterback Stephen Morris left the field under his own power after appearing to sprain his right ankle with 8:51 left in the first quarter. Trainers checked him out and the X-rays on his ankle were negative. So he could get the start against South Florida.

Meanwhile, the Hurricanes’ defense now ranks 7th in the nation in points per game allowed with 9.7.  They held Savannah State to just 183 total yards, and should have no problem against an anemic South Florida offense that will have their hands full with a unit that is beset with talented athletes and playmakers.

So far, it’s been a miserable start to the season for the Bulls, who most recently received a beating by visiting Florida Atlantic 28-10. [soliloquy id=”82219″]

The Bulls only managed 297 yards and turned the ball over three times, two times resulting in points for the Owls.

The lone bright spot for the Bulls, however, was a 159-yard performance by running back Marcus Shaw — a career-best on 22 carries.

South Florida’s 0-3 start is a first in program history, as the team continues struggle offensively, putting up a meager 12.2 PPG. which ranks 121st in college football.
Defensively, freshman linebacker Nigel Harris made his first career start, leading South Florida with 12 tackles and a forced fumble. He will need to bring his a-game against the Hurricanes.

Matt’s Prediction

Looking at this one, I cannot help but predicting a lopsided affair.

The Hurricanes should have little issues with rolling past a young, struggling USF defensive unit, even if Morris rides the bench in this one to allow a little more time for his ankle to heal.

In the meantime, USF will have a hard time moving the ball against a Cane’ defense that will also have little trouble shutting down a Bulls’ passing offense that ranks 120th in the nation in yards.

I expect that Miami rolls to the cover and grab a 4-0 start in this one.
