Virginia Tech Hokies vs. Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets Week 11 Free Pick

Venue/ Stadium: Bobby Dodd Stadium, ATLANTA, GA

This game is a HUGE ACC match up, as the winner will be in the driver’s seat to win the Coastal Division and in an interesting fact the winner of the Georgia Tech vs. Virginia Tech game has represented that division in the ACC title game in the last 5 seasons.

No. 10 Virginia Tech Hokies vs. No. 21 Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets Preview

The loser of this game will, likely, kiss their BCS bowl game chances goodbye. NCAAF lines have Virginia Tech as slight 1-point favorite with a total of 49.5.

Both teams are well rested after a bye last week and in their last games on October 29th Virginia Tech struggled on offense in a 14-10 win over Duke and Georgia Tech was solid on offense and defense in beating Clemson 31-17.

The Hokies and their 5th ranked run defense will be tested in this game by a Georgia Tech rushing offense that ranks 2nd in the nation. That is, pretty much, all they have to worry about in the Yellow Jackets offense, which only ranks 109th in the nation in passing yards per game.

The Yellow Jackets QB duo of Tevin Washington and David Sims have combined to rush for 1,200 yards with 14 TD on the season and if the Hokies can keep these guys in check they should easily win this game. [soliloquy id=”82219″]

Virginia Tech uses a more balanced attack on offense, as their rushing offense ranks 24th in the nation and their passing offense ranks 65th. Still, defending the run may be more important for the Yellow Jackets and their 69th ranked run defense trying to contain Hokies’ star RB David Wilson, who is the nation’s 2nd leading rusher and has failed to crack the 100 yard barrier on the ground only one time this season.

Hokies’ QB Logan Thomas has a decent WR corps, but he must play better in this game than he did in the Duke game with only 1 TD and 2 INT. Georgia Tech However, that is easier said than done facing a Yellow Jackets” pass defense that ranks 15th in the nation.

Betting Trends

On the season Virginia Tech has not been a good team to lay some green on, as they are only 2-7 ATS and they have an O/U record of 3-5-1 and Georgia Tech is 5-3-1 ATS and have an O/U record of 5-4.

Virginia Tech is only 1-4 ATS in their last 5 road games, and only 1-7 in their last 8 games overall, and has an Under record of 7-1 in their last 8 road games.
Georgia Tech is 4-1 ATS in their last 5 home games, 1-3-1 ATS in their last 5 ACC games, and has an Under record of 4-0 in their last 4 games.

Jason’s Pick:

Georgia Tech has covered the spread in 4 of their last 5 games facing Virginia Tech and I think that trend will continue. The Yellow Jackets will take the momentum from their big win over Clemson and play well in this game winning in a minor upset.

Take the Under as well, as both teams will run and that will eat time off the clock.
