Florida State

Florida State beat Maryland, Clemson, and Miami (FL) by a combined score of 155-28. On paper, these were the toughest games on Florida State’s schedule and they absolutely cruised past these teams. A couple of shaky quarters against Miami, but, that’s about it. The Seminoles may not have the toughest schedule out there, but they are destroying each and every team they face. They are doing what they are supposed to do.

Against the competition they are facing, they look like the most complete team in college football. They Seminoles are are throwing for 339.4 passing yards a game, rushing for 209.8 yards a game, and scoring 51.1 points a game. Offensively, they are led by Heisman candidate Jameis Winston who leads the ACC in total offense 331.9 yards per game, passing average with 312.8, pass efficiency 201.1 and 24 passing touchdowns. Defensively, Florida State is seventh in the nation allowing only 287.6 yards a game.

Wake Forest

Wake Forest is a scrappy little team. They’ve got a couple of notable victories in beating N.C. State, and Maryland. What shines the brightest on their resume though is a near upset win in Miami. They lost to Miami (FL) 24-21 a game in which Miami had to comeback with 4 minutes left.

Playing Florida State is a whole different animal, though; As we saw last Saturday Florida State absolutely blew away the Hurricanes. Wake Forest comes into this game shorthanded without their all-time leading receiver. Michael Campanaro broke his collarbone in a 13-0 loss to Syracuse. It’s a big blow as Wake Forest has struggled to move the ball this season. Wake Forest has averaged only 19.4 points a game, 224.1 passing yards, and 88 rushing yards a game. Numbers like that are obviously not going to get it done versus the seventh best defense in the nation.

Danny’s FREE College Football Pick:

Coming off a big emotional victory I expect Florida State to have a bit of a let down. They play a below average Wake Forest team in the morning and the Seminoles might not be 100% in the game. However, Florida State playing at 80%, 70%, heck even 50% should be enough to blow out the Demon Deacons. I can’t see Wake Forest moving the ball on the number seven ranked defense in the nation and I can’t see Wake Forest stopping an offense that averages 49 points a game.

All in all, I don’t think Florida State plays their very best, but I don’t think they need to. There is just way more talent on the Florida State than on the Wake Forest side.  Again, I can’t see Wake Forest having much success on offense, and without an offense that will consistently move the ball Wake Forest’s defense will wear down as the game progresses.

This is all bad news for the Demon Deacons and I think Florida State covers the 35 points.

Pick: Florida State -35
Prediction: Florida State 49 – Wake Forest 9
