Ball State Cardinals

The Ball State Cardinals may not be getting the headlines and the attention that Jordan Lynch and the Northern Illinois Huskies are getting, but don’t sleep on the Ball State Cardinals. The Cardinals are a high flying offense that have a lot of weapons. Senior Quarterback Keith Wenning has thrown for 2,865 yards and 23 touchdowns this year.

Junior Halfback Jahwan Edwards has 659 rushing yards and 12 rushing touchdowns, and Junior Wide Receiver Willie Snead already has over 1,000 yards receiving and has scored 10 receiving touchdowns.

This is a very dangerous offense and next week will be a fun showdown when Ball State travels to play Northern Illinois.

Now, I mention this because you have to factor in the fact that may be, just may be, Ball State over looks Central Michigan this week. Will it? To me, I’d have to say no and the reason for that is Ball State hasn’t played at home in almost three weeks. This game versus Central Michigan will be on National Television.

A lot of people will be tuning in and watching Ball State for the first time. I’m looking for Ball State to be pumped up and ready to play.

Central Michigan Chippewas

Now, the Central Michigan Chippewas still have a lot to play for. They are a young, developing team building for the future, but they have their sights set on a bowl game this year. They are sitting at 3-5 for the season so it does seem like a bit of a long shot, but when you look at their schedule they still have a realistic shot at becoming bowl eligible.

Hypothetically speaking, let’s say they lose versus Ball State – which, let’s face it, more than likely will happen – but, Central Michigan should be favored versus Western Michigan, Massachusetts, and Eastern Michigan.

They realistically have a shot at becoming bowl eligible and they may end up sneaking in a bowl game. A win over Ball State Wednesday night, though just about assures them a bowl game. [soliloquy id=”82219″]

So, this is a huge game for Central Michigan and they will be giving it their all.

Freshman Quarterback Cooper Rush continues to improve and is coming off a pretty good game versus Northern Illinois throwing for 271 yards, two touchdowns, and an interception.

He got some help from explosive Junior Wide Receiver Titus Davis who had 5 receptions, 109 yards, and a touchdown and for the season has 34 receptions 627 yards, and 5 touchdowns.

Danny’s FREE NCAAF Pick:

Overall, I think this could be a pretty explosive game. Both defenses are a bit shaky, but the difference is while Central Michigan’s offense is decent and good at times, the Ball State offense is much better.

Ball State has an experienced quarterback who can sling it around and there are plenty of weapons to choose from.

Given that they are playing at home and on National Television (ESPN 2) I don’t expect Ball State to look ahead at next week’s big showdown versus Northern Illinois.

Look for Ball State to click on all cylinders on the offensive end and I believe Central Michigan will have their fair share of success on the offensive end, but when it’s all said and done, Ball State should overwhelm the Central Michigan Chippewas.

Pick: Ball State Cardinals -19
Score Prediction: Ball State Cardinals 41 – Central Michigan Chippewas 17
